Cheap Rig for Maxing Diablo 3 and Live Streaming + Video Editing

After selling my beast of a PC due to lack of use, D3's release date is announced and even though I'm extremely excited, it's a pain in the rear at the same time.

I'm going to buy all the parts used and cut costs where I can. I spent a lot of the original PC money on other things so the budget is certainly tighter now.

My question is what is the cheapest build I can put together that will max out Diablo 3 + League of Legends and be adequate for live streaming both PC and Xbox gameplay? I will most likely be doing a bit of video editing, also.

I'm not really setting a budget in stone as I just want it to be as cheap as possible without struggling to run what I need it to.

If you need any more info, let me know!

Thanks!

I'd try pick up a 2nd hand 1366 bundle. Truly excellent rigs for video due the six cores and tri channel memory.

I was thinking about snagging an older i5/i7 setup. I figured I could find a nice deal on one. Is the i7 going to be significantly better than the i5 in terms of streaming and editing? Also, are there any cheaper Intel or even AMD CPU's that would suffice?

The other big questions I have that I forgot to mention:

For the Video Card, should I go Nvidia or AMD for these uses? What would be ideal for my needs? I was figuring something in the 460/6850 Class would work?

For the Hard Drive, will a standard HDD be fine? I know SSD's are faster but far too expensive for any decent amount of storage.

For the RAM, how much should I aim for? I'm figuring at least 8GB just to be safe but would 12GB or more be worthwhile?

For Live Streaming and Capturing, what would you guys recommend? I've read that the Black Magic Intensity's have trouble running w/ new gen i7 Processors for some reason. Would it work with the older ones? Would something like the Avermedia Cards be better?

Thanks!

The Haupaugge PVRs are worth a look for capture too.

In terms of video card if you ever plan on using the Adobe CS suite for editing then an Nvidia card would be worth while for the GPU processing, a 570 or 580 would be ideal. RAM again if you plan on doing video editing more is better. Minimum of 8GB if going dual channel or 12GB if going tri channel (its so cheap these days). As for CPU, the extra cores become useful for exporting and rendering video although I must admit I run a video production company on a core2duo iMac with 4GB of RAM and cut nothing but HD video. Its never missed a beat! I don't doubt a PC of similar spec should work just as well. HDD, yes SSDs are expensive but I would still nab one for your OS drive. A 64GB can be had for a sensible amount these days. For video drives get 7200RPM ones, ideally get two large capacity ones and RAID them. All of the above with get you a really capable rig for doing serious video work. If its just game vids you are doing then you can afford to go cheaper and lower spec.

I had a Hauppauge before and wasn't crazy about it. It required a converter box to connect to a Monitor because it's done through Component Cables so it was a huge mess and the quality was decent but nothing breath taking. I figured that an internal card would be better?

Yes, this will be for gaming only, nothing professional. I will be live streaming, capturing, and editing gameplay footage when needed.

I like the Matrox and Black magic intensity pro shuttle, not budget friendly though. Shouldn't you be capping PC games anyway tongue.gif

I will be buying used so it will hopefully be a bit easier on the wallet. I will be capping PC games also but I play Xbox as well so I want to be able to cap it, too. smile.gif
