Can I overclock my CPU or not?

Hello,

I was wondering if I could overclock my CPU, which is a Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz

If yes, how do I know that my PC won't burn?

1) fill out your system specs please

2) do you have an aftermarket cooler?

3) rule of thumb, as long as the CPU stays under or around 75C under full load (Prime95) I'd say that's good. If it goes over, invest in new cooler.

4) Read a few guides around here.

5) Have fun! Good luck!

that processor will overclock pretty easily as long as its not inside a computer like a Dell or HP with a motherboard that wont let you overclock.

1. Windows 7 64 bit (if that is what you mean)
2. No, I don't have an aftermarket cooler, it's just the same cooler as when I bought the PC.
3. You're talking about degrees, do you mean this?

download a program called CPU-Z and tell us what the motherboard is

As you can see I already posted a screenshot of it in my first post.

As per the CPU-z screen shots in the original post, the motherboard is a MCP73PVT-PM and a generic one from an older Packard Bell machine. I would say the overclocking ability of the board would be pretty low. I also doubt that the BIOS would have the options unlocked to overclock since it is a pre-built system I'm assuming.

That's right. I checked the whole BIOS for an overclock option already, but it doesn't have one.
Does that mean I'm also not able to software overclock then?

it is not going to be stable and since u can't adjust voltages or ram timings, u wont get very far.

That processor is pretty strong even at stock, what are u trying to accomplish by overclocking, is it the geek factor or do u have a legitmate reason, like framerates in a certain game, etc.

Looking at a picture of the board, it doesn't look like it has any cooling on the power circuitry for the CPU which could easily get damaged if you overclock it too far.
