need some help with SATA HDD not recognized by Windows 7 Installation.

So lately a have a friend bringing me their family's computers to fix which I really don't mind because they give me some cash which is helping me out a lot even if it is not that much. He brought me another HP computer with a Windows Vista corrupted installation and since they can get a windows 7 key cheap through college I told them it was going to run better than Vista. The problem is that after I reformatted the hard drive to install Windows 7 it could not read the DVD anymore because it was scratched. I burn my iso copy again and try to install it, but the hard drive is not seen anymore.

The hard drive it's a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 360GB ST3360320AS probably SATA I. Looks like I need the driver controller, but I've looked everywhere and even on HPs website and can't find anything. The computer it's an HP Pavilion 6000 serioes (a6407c).

I'll appreciate any help.

I forgot to add that the drive it's fine. I plugged it into my computer through an external docking station and it's seen fine.

load up your win 7 disc and hold ctrl f10 (or shift f10 cant remember) at the initail installation screen, this will bring up a cmd line:

Type "Diskpart"
then "list disk" This will show connected drives. Also check the bios to see if the HDD is showing up.

If the disk is listed on Diskpart (usualy disk0) You can type the following commands to re partition the drive:

sel dis 0 (where 0 is your primary HDD)
cle
cre par pri
for quick fs=ntfs
assign
exit

If you do a custom installation this drive should show and it won't create that nasty system partition either. hope this helps. smile.gif

is the drive plugged into a native sata port?

And can you try a different drive?

have you got a Win 7 SP1 iso or the normal?

Actually I'm trying now the non sp1 iso. But it is home edition and it's working. The key is for professional though so I might have to get a new iso.

go get the chipset drivers for the motherboard from the vendor and install those when it gets to the blank screen with no drives. it sounds like that is your problem assuming the bios sees them.
