960t

so i just got my rig with amd 960t x4 to boot up, i havent really messed with bios much, i did manage to get it to about 3.4ghz on stock cooler but didnt really want to go much higher than that. when in bios its saying my cpu is running at 54-55c? from my understanding thats not normal? is it just cause i still have stock cooler?

im also new to overclocking, what needs to be done in order to overclock? if i mess with the frequency of my cpu, it boost my cpu and memory? but i can move the multipler up like 2.0 points and get it to 3.4ghz?

idk how to try to unlock the 2 extra cores. unless its as easy as enable that button in bios, dont remember what it says, but when i enable it stays with 4 cores frown.gif

gigabyte 990fxa ud3/ 16gb g.skill 1600 memory

my temps just seem high:
system: 34c
CPU: 43c
NB: 46c

right now i have it set to stock clock: and all im running is IE10 and cpuid HM.. please let me know what ive done wrong. is the amd stock coolers just that crappy? if so ill gather $30 bucks and order me a hyper 212+ tonight.

what is your motherboard? and more important is - just wait till you get a better cpu cooler like the Cooler Master 212 Revo before unlocking.

that's a good plan. prolly throw in another identical 120 fan and some mx-2 or 4 paste. you have a nice mobo.

you can visit this thread here for more help . . .

yea i havent overclock to far because i dont wanna fry anything, ill prolly try to order another cpu cooler when i order my PCI wireless card,

i have 5 120mm fans and a 140mm fan in the case now. thats why im wondering why im getting bad temps. it should stay fairly cool? even though it has been 85F outside here..

would this been good for thermal paste? all ive ever used was antec paste from our local staples.

arctic silver 5 works GREAT for overclocks. break it in by powercycling your pc for 2 hours per day and leaving it off for a while and after a week your temps should drop pretty good.
