Help getting 5870 temps inder control

Hey all ---

Having a bit of trouble getting my 5870 temps to stay within reason. Maybe Im over reacting, so if my situation is normal, I apologize.

Idle, I am getting around 40-42 or so, which I'm fine with. Lately, when playing some games, Diablo 3 Beta in particular, I can see in the control panel the temps go up to 82 or so. Now, this is when the card is only under about 65% load and the fan is cranked to about 70%.

Ive tried underclocking it from stock of 850/1200 down to 800/1100 and even down to 700/1000 and it really doesn't make a difference. Also tried going to 90%-100% fan speed but its just to unbearable and I'm scared I'm going to burn it out. I removed it from motherboard today, gave it a good cleaning and removed a ton of dust, yet it pretty much made no difference.

Now my room is around 65 or so and this freaks me out because summer is not here yet. I'm scared to see what happens once it goes up to 85+ degrees out.

Anything I can do to get these temps down? Or is this normal and I have nothing to worry. Card has been tine for 2 years like this, but id like to get it down if possible. Appreciated!

My 5870 used to run the same temps at about the same fan speed. Don't worry about burning out the fan either. They are rated to run max if necessary.

Ok, cool.

I mean I'm not having any issues at all. No stuttering, textures glitches, no driver crashes, pretty much stable. I just don't get why its that high. My i7 is nice and cool. Also, I know I'm still in the safe zone temp wise, I'm just over worried i guess seeing 80+ temps.

If it bothers you things you can do is feed it more air, bring down ambient temp, increase GPU fan speed etc etc.

Also you could give the card a good cleaning. Reason I didn't suggest this before is because you said it's been like this 2 years so....
