I agree except for Win 95. What was wrong with it? It was IMHO leaps and bounds over 3.11 which I hated after 95 came out. And 98 made it much better. Win98 SE FTW.

So goddamn sick of the BS people are spreading around saying how Metro is the only interface available in Windows 8. Others pick up on this and then get a bad image of Windows 8 when in reality, it's NOTHING like how people are making it out to be.

Kotaku doesn't care about being truthful or accurate

their only goal is to generate pageviews, so they just use things like "nerd bait" as it is called to attract views from people who are outraged by their usually inane headlines

and the articles that aren't made to provoke people are just as bad. they seriously ran a story about a guy who died in some downtown area, and the only way it was related to gaming in any way was that he died somewhere near an arcade

I'm not kidding. The site is a joke.

You have to realise, sites like consumerist and kotaku are blogs.

Nothing more than blogs.

We live in a time where major news outlets can hardly keep their whoever funded/backed agendas out of what we really need to hear, so bloggers aren't exactly going to feel obligated to be objective or truthful either as long as they get their hits and get paid.

Yeah, but the problem with Vista is that once it got a bad reputation, the damage was done and it couldn't truly recover, even after it was improved and the drivers caught up. The same thing could happen with Windows 8.

True, then MS would just slightly change the UI, do a bit of optimisation and add a new feature or two and charge for it as though it was an entirely new OS.

The start menu is a goddamn massive part of the Windows UI, changing it (ie. metro) is changing it significantly. Anyone using the start menu (fairly) regularly in Win7/XP/Vista will have to use Metro just as often in Windows 8, unless they learn keyboard shortcuts...Which most average consumers won't.

That said, it has nothing to do with fullscreen games does it? I don't tend to whip through my start menu mid game!

So your saying sales numbers will prove how successful it is? I hope to let you know Windows 8 will most likely sell more copies then any other Windows before. So if thats your way of saying Windows 8 sucks, then I would re-word your post quickly.

Metro is only a Start Interface. How long will it take you people to understand that? Metro is not a Windows inside a Windows like you people make it out to be. Its simply the classic start menu stretched to a full screen visual interface. Nothing more, nothing less. Besides the use of Metro style applications, which launch directly from the start menu (again another improvement).

Anyone who believes in a release pattern like that should just delete their OCN account. I have never had problems with any of the Windows operating systems from 95 up till now. Even Vista was fine for me (other then being a resource hog). If you dislike a version of windows, it only proves you clearly don't know how to use it.

True that. I got confused on Win8 topics, for gaming the difference between Win8 and Win7 will be little to nothing.

It's a horrible start interface. I already have tonnes of applications/games/whatever on the Start menu, it doesn't need to be full screen (Why is that good? Especially considering it wastes tonnes of space...) and there's no benefit at all. Just more work (Even slight amounts of having to move the mouse further across the screen) for no benefit.

I completely hear you man. I had no problems with vista and found much of the complaints to be garbage. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure every gripe against vista I've read has never had a reason attached to it. I enjoyed vista all the way up until windows 7 came out. There were a few gripes I had with the OS but I was way happier with it than XP. The interface was 10 times better and was basically copy pasted into windows 7, so I've p. much been using the same OS since vista came out.
