Naughty 965p dq6

Hi, im in my first build, its a pentium 930d based watercooled sistem, few weeks ago i got all the components, i started overclocking on a gigabyte 954p s3 and it was pretty dissaponting, i couldnt get past 250 xp bootable fsb!!! i could get the bios to boot at 300fsb but that was about it, it wouldnt go any further than the bios screen. i tried every config possible and decided to get a 965p-DQ6.
great board it ran flawlessly stable til it hit the 290fsb past 300fsb the pc sarts to turn on and off in a loop.

WHAT THE HELL??? i`ve read that this board can easily achieve a 450fsb

i would like to know what can i do to at least get a decent 4.5ghz OC. Im currently running stable at 4.2ghz, 2.66 mem mult, 5-5-5-15 timmings, 8:6 ratio at 1.36 vcore

Run the memory 1:1 to get the best overclocking results out of the DQ6, I can get mine running stable up to about 480-490 fsb Try upping the vcore, mch and fsb - put fsb and mch at +0.35

Yeah, there must be something wrong. Its not the board. That board is awesome. Run 1:1 as danm said because sometimes, the mothreboard doesn't like wierd ratios.

The problem is that when i`ve tried to get 1:1 no other multi than the 2,66 or 2.0 works! anything else crashes, ive tried the vcore up to 1.42 and yet nothing ive upped the mch and fsb with no luck
cuold it be that im runnin f3 bios?

Or maybe my RAM native speed? its supossed to be 667 effective, right now is running @ 747mhz. Can it get up to 800mhz so i get a more decent ratio?

Yeha thats wierd. Run it at 267 Mhz and see how that works out. Then increase your FSB.

Well ive dropped my fsb and mch now to +0.1v just to try it out and im still at 440x8 on my core 2 duo

Run the ram multi at 2 thats 1:1

Also try flashing to the F5 bios, thats what I have.

Well, there is more to your build than just the board......there is no way you are getting that 930 to 450FSB, or anywhere even close. The CPU has a FSB limitation as well.

However, the 9xx series easily goes over 300FSB so that's not your problem yet. There is something wrong though, because that board is better than that, and that CPU is better than that. Your RAM's native speed is 1:1 at 333 FSB, so there is no reason to be overclocking it to 747Mhz....it may be the RAM that is holding you back because you are trying to run it higher than it can handle.

As was mentioned, flash your BIOS to the newest one, the 965 boards are very new and so have many things to get worked out with new BIOS. Then, set your RAM to run at 600Mhz and see if you can get 300FSB then.

Tanks Thumper, i´ll try flashing my bios to f5, i just have to install a floppy

then im thinking of getting rid of this cpu and get a core 2 duo, the thing is that my 930 its just 3 weeks old and the conroes are kind of expensive here in mexico, any advice on which one should i get? the 6300 or 6400? i,ll be using it mostly for high end games, internet, video editing and of course... massive overclocking!!!

Any advice on that will be apreciated
