27C Delta with 2 240 rads in a cpu only loop?

Thread Starter
I recently expanded off of my rasa rs240 kit by adding an rx 240 to my loop, this gave me a slight improvement, but my temps are nowhere near where it seems like they should be.. at idle my cpu (Phenom II 965) uses about 1.49v, and at load LLC kicks in, and it hits around 1.52v

My room is about 20-22C, and idle temps are around 35C, and load temps are just under 50C

I know that's a pretty good amount of voltage, but it seems like it should be running far cooler than this frown.gif
Can anybody shed some light on what might be happening?

MkZGE.jpg?1
Edit: added a picture
The front fan on my case is intake, the fan on the rx is pulling towards the back of the case, the fans on the top of the rs are intake, and the fan on the rear of the case is exhaust, all fans are 88cfm yate loons

My room is probably the same ambient temp, on a 2600K at 1.1v and 3.6Ghz (I raise it to 4.5 on 1.19 when I game) my temps are 30-32 on idle, and 45-50C load.

I'd say what you are getting is fine, there's only so much water can drop a temp, I've never seen my temps drop lower then ambient + 8-10C.

what kind of setup do you have though?

I see people talking about using a setup like mine with cpu and gpu in the loop and getting better temps than this..

What were your temps like prior to adding the new rad?

Seems right. The delta that most usually talk about is the water to air delta, not the cpu temp to air delta which you are and will likely confuse some people that come to comment. The CPU temp doesn't measure the performance of the loop, the temperature of the water does by telling you how close to ambient the water is despite the fact that components are dumping heat into it. Generally the only thing causing bad cpu temps if the water temps is good is a poor cpu block mount.

Your fans make a big difference. If you're using stock case fans, that's going to be the issue.

Sounds good. Your temps are similar to mine when I was running 4.3-4.4 on my 955 about 1.48 volts but I use a 360 rad CPU only loop, and my ambient temps were about 30* C.

i was not aware of that... I'm a total rookie when it comes to water cooling :\

what would a good delta be in this case?

Your temps are not "bad" by any means, nor are they phenomenal. They seem to be in the range of what your loop is capable of. To check your water-air delta (pretty much what determines whether the loop is low - medium - or high end at dissipating the amount of heat that the rest of your components dump into the loop) can be taken with a temp sensor put into the loop or ,my favorite method, just sticking a thermometer into the reservoir and reading it. The difference between that temp and ur ambient temp is ur delta. Most systems on here are in the 10C range, this is assuming that you've had your system at full load for approximately 1 hour for temps to even out before you measured temps.

Low end - 10C+

Medium - 10C

High end - 5C

OMG - </=2C

With you radiators and yates pushing that much air the actual performance of the loop shouldn't be an issue. The pump is good enough to push the water at an adequate speed as well. It seems the only thing that could be hurting ur temps are a bad cpu block tim application, a kink in the tube, or a blockage somewhere.

Some CPUs just run hot, also... The IHS is going to vary from chip to chip, some are going to be flatter than others, and some are going to be closer to the actual CPU die than others. I'd try a re-mount, checking your paste to see how the spread looks, but the temps don't seem unreasonable at all.
