These forums are full of people that do just that, I generally go for the budget stuff but this card looks like a good upgrade from my 5850 especially since i really want to take advantage of mercury playback engine due to work. Also the low power usage really appeals to me since it means the temps shouldn't be too high, and i am only running stock cooling.

Yeah but the performance loss is probably because it needed more ram for the anti-aliasing, this is why i will hold out for one with more VRAM. It does sound odd using All 2GB with only 4XAA though, so maybe its something else.

Not cheap.

Considering a ROI of 10% should also be taken into account and the fact that the USD as a currency has lost over 96.2% of it's value since 1913.

Exactly. It's all about 'Planned' and 'Perceived Obsolescence

They make cheaper than $500 graphics cards. You want something cheaper? NVIDIA and AMD have you covered, dude.

All I need to see is:

Benchmarks comparing the 7970 and 680 in the Witcher 2 and BF3
AUD Pricing

Then I'll decide I only run 1 monitor at 1008p so 2GB v 3GB wont make that much diff to me.

Yeah I don't think many people will jump on that protest wagon. They don't only make one card for a reason. There's something for every segment of consumer, as there is with cars, most electronics, pretty much everything. You can't bring down the free market

Funny you should say that. I bought 2 GTX480's on launch day. Almost exactly two years later, I still don't need to buy new cards to play just about everything maxed out. If it was just for the e-peen, it might have been foolish; as it is, it was a grand well spent.
