[Official] NVIDIA GTX 680 Owner's Club - Page 145

Question for everyone (owners): I've got 2 monitors, one accessory. Both are connected via the DVI ports. Whenever I launch a game, my accessory monitor goes dark (eventually THE WONDERFUL windows pop-up appears telling me crap about changing the color scheme, etc etc.). I never had this issue with my old GTX 260 setup.

I am curious:

1. How does everyone have their monitors setup? What ports
2. Any idea how to get the popup to stop and have my second monitor working?

Do note it is only when I am gaming at fullscreen.

Plug in other monitor to the 2600k.
Use basic and you will no longer see these retarded windows popups.

This also happens on my 580.

Wait, you can plug an extra (browsing) monitor in to the mobo slot and not use your main gpu's resources?

lol DOH! Yes, but you must have the z68 chipset as its the only chipset which supports it.

It will generate more heat from your CPU though, so if overclocking, not the best idea.

There are only certain cards you can Step-Up too and they're stock models only. Here is the list: http://www.evga.com/support/stepup/.

For example if you have a GTX 570 HD 2.5GB (like me) you can only Step-Up to a GTX 580 1.5GB. You can't Step-Up to a GTX 580 3GB, Classified, or Hydro Copper. I have no proof but it wouldn't surprise if they didn't have the 4GB version as a Step-Up option. It seems to have been that way for awhile. But someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: From Step-Up Site
EVGA will only release reference versions of its products, NVIDIA reference spec and clock, to the Step-Up program.

I plan to buy EVGA 680, honestly how noisy is the card on idle and playing games?

I usually turn my speakers volume up and I can't even heard my computer hum at all or wear headphones. Other than that, my computer is pretty sealed from noises. If you have Cooler Master type of chassis with a lot of grill and holes, expect more noises.

Thank you for clarifying that, hadn't looked into the program too much. It actually makes sense that they would limit the Step-Up program availability. If they didn't, everybody and their dog would be upgrading as soon as the higher end, non-reference cards came out. Then they would just end up with a surplus of refurbished reference models that they couldn't do anything with.
