Anything higher than +100 Mhz also crashes 3dmark11.
I've read a review (the "not boring one") about this card where he says that it's easily oc'ed to 1274 MHz at 45°C. Mine goes to 69-70 °C at 1225 Mhz.
Did I get a bad card after all?
Edit: This is the review i talk about: http://www.overclock.net/t/1249192/msi-gtx-680-twin-frozr-iii-bench-review-not-boring
He is also getting 11400 points in 3dmark11 whereas i only get 10200.

Keep in mind you are comparing your results with someone who is running caseless. wink.gif With such a difference in temps, the easiest way to see if your case airflow may be an issue is just to run with the side panel off. If your temps drop significantly, then you need to somehow figure out a way to get the airflow moving along. If there is no change, or an increase in temps, then your airflow is good/great and your may have a card that needs the heatsink reseated. smile.gif

It's worth noting though that temperature comparisons can only go so far due to differences in ambient temps as well; so I wouldn't look too far into it. For all you know, the guy in the review may be living in the Arctic where it is below freezing all the time. wink.gif As it stands, your temps are pretty good from what I have seen. thumb.gif

do you ever get frames above 60 fps? what driver are you using?

Hello again,

I have 680 SLI and one of the cards boost clock is 15mhz higher then the other. Is this normal?

Yes that's very normal. Would be a fluke if both can OC as well equally with the other. Thank you for that nice picture. I'm using white multi sleeve wiring as well and it's a nice insight how those signatures will look. thumb.gif

Question - have you started to do any over clocking? And if so, any benching? Those of us with straight vanilla flavors of 4 power phases would like to know if the 5 power phase Signature 680's have extra OC room? Wondering on your Core / Memory numbers?

It's been the big question and stats haven't started to come in as of yet. It takes most a few days to learn how to OC and about a week or more to find that top ceiling their cards can put out. We'll be looking foward to your info if you have that kind of time.

Call it the GPU hobbyist in us that's interested. smile.gif

On a side note - has anyone noticed that our cards do very well in Extreme 3DMark11 benchmarks? I'm pretty sure it's keeping our GPU Boost pegged as opposed to the Performance run where our cards down clock during the testing therefore giving us lower scores.

I was sort of surprised at my Extreme score with same clocks as my Performance score.

338

I'm happy with this card knowing where it counts most during intense battle scenes it's dynamically being over clocked for that edge I'm looking for without having to keep that high OC at a constant. Less hardware degradation. thumb.gif

Thanks for the answer and the compliment on the picture! I haven't had a chance to overclock these individually but I tried overclocking them together. So far I'm able to push them up to +133mhz from stock and +425mhz memory. I used to own an EVGA 680 SC + Backplate (84-KR) and it performed way better than the Signature Series. I was able to push the 84-KR to +162mhz and +503mhz, the boost clock was maxing 1333mhz compared to the Signatures boost clocks of 1231mhz and 124mhz. Single 84-KR scored X3900 and P10800 on 3DMark11 way better than the Signature Series. I dunno maybe I'm doing something wrong or I just got really lucky on the 84-KR.

Well the offset clocks is not a good way to determine how well a card can actually over clock because those offsets are very different from card to card. Some of the variables that come into play is that the base core clock between a vanilla flavor, super clocked, and signature (as an example) all start differently. So the offset required to obtain let's say 1225 Mhz Core on one card will not require as big of an offset on another.

Your findings that the vanilla card with 4 power phase did better than your Signature card with an extra power phase can either be one of two things:

A. Having more power phases doesn't make a difference in these cards.
B. Your vanilla card was a better over clocker than your signature card.

So as these numbers start to come in more we'll start seeing a pattern and a common denominator.

In theory having the extra power phases should allow for cleaner input of voltage thus lower temps as it's spreading voltage and in theory should allow for a higher over clock before hitting that 70C ceiling where the cards start to down clock themselves.

Thanks for the input thus far. Enjoy that nice rig bud. biggrin.gif

Hey all.

I have a dell u2711 screen and a hd 6990 at the moment. And I'm looking at upgrading/downgrading (depending on if I get a single gtx 680, sli 680, or gtx 690). I run a native resolution of 2560x1440, and I find games look a lot worse when I run them at 1920x1080 (Due to the gpu/internal scaler, or perhaps it's just the mismatched pixel count).

Here are the reasons I want to switch to either a gtx 680, gtx 690, or SLI gtx 680.

A: Microstutter midigation, either via a single card - or via frame metering actually being something that's real - and mitigages microstutter on SLI cards.
B: Forced Ssao via nvidia inspector combined with less taxing AA alternatives and more options to tweak the performance visuals of my card.
C: Faster driver releases that don't leave games unplayable for months after release (Skyrim, Risen 2, Battlefield 3, and many more where nearly unplayable on my 6990 for weeks/months after release - Skyrim continued to have issues).

My question to you:
1. -Do you think - with my A B and C reasons under consideration - that a single gtx 680 is a good fit? I want to try and aim for 60fps in most games.
2. - For people who went SLI 680, or even SLI 4xx, 5xx - and have seen microstutter on an amd card. Do you feel that the frame metering technology that nivida employs does actually work and 'mostly' does it's job at above 30-40fps. Because the 6990 has microstutter at anything below 60fps - in a large number of game engines.
3. - Is the forced SSAO, via nvidia inspector options - something that actually pans out for playing games in the longterm, or is it too flickery/incompatible to really use in anything. Furthermore, would going from a single gtx 680 to SLI - benefit this feature. Or would the fact that forced ssao being an unofficial feature of a tweaking program - hinder it's performance scaling with another card. (An example, using ENB on two CFX cards, slows it down and breaks it)

And finally. If you where me,
me being someone who likes to actually see the framerate that's listed in the corner of the screen - and prefers 60fps in games without microstutter
What would you do? And why?

Thanks. - Matt From Australia. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go pat random kangaroos roaming the streets.
