Lol. My EVGA boosts to 1327Mhz. With 1280 I will be settling for less biggrin.gif
You got a beast at 1327. For these cards anyone should be very happy at 1280 or your expectation are too high. Hopefully you score again with the DCII!

Yeah, I know, I got one of the few golden chips. What are the odds of getting 2nd one too? That's why I am ready to settle with Asus if it hits at least 1250. If not, not worth it, I'll keep my precious evga and asus will have to go.

Yah I'm with you. You may just be better off adding some different cooling to the evga. For $70 you could get the antec kuhler 620 and the bracket from Dwood. I have the antec 920 on mine and just did some BF3 max temp was 51c.

Heres a quick shot I took today. (just got a new case yesterday)

That's some impressive load temps, very nice. The thing for me is I am pretty happy with EVGA ref cooler, it's not loud by any means. I just happen to stumble on DCII, and I love DCII cards. I had 580 DCII and it was the best looking and quietest card I ever had. Virtually silent, IDLE or load. It was definitely an impulse buy, not because I needed it, but because it was available at that moment. I just could not resist the temptation of putting my hands on DCII GTX 680.

Don't tell my wife that though, every time new package comes, she thinks it's absolutely required for my work and visual studio won't compile anything without new graphics card devil-smiley-019.gif

I kind of wish I waited for the 670, but seeing that my card goes to 1306 core, I'll stay with it.

I'm with you I had a DCII 580 for a short while. Loved that card. Not a fan of the triple slot though. With the 670 and 680 being so similar and the fact that the 670 is only dual slot. It seems that the 680 could have also been dual slot. I think a lot more people would buy them if they were only dual.

Thanks man. Almost didn't see who you were always changing avatars biggrin.gif

I had done the mod when I first got the 680. But took it off as I had a different case. But I was hooked on the great temps. Which are pretty much equal to when I had a 580 in a full coverage block and a real loop. Its a shame though that it doesn't really help for overclocking.

Even a golden chip 670 won't catch up to your golden chip 680. All the other 670's don't even come close when over clocked to your golden over clocked 680. If you can get past the $100 more for better performance than there is nothing you should regret.

As for all other 680 owners that have better than average to just average over clocking 680's, you shouldn't have any regrets. Your GPU's run a bit cooler and a bit more performance even if just by a little it's still better.

Something about having less across the board that dosen't make me feel fuzzy inside. Less Cores, Texture units, & polymorph unit. Unless you over budgeted to get your card, don't look back.

The 670 pcb's are shorter run hotter. Less OC potential. They have to over clock to catch up to a stock 680.

At the end of the day the 680 is still better than the 670. It's at a premium I understand but if you bought it, must have meant you could afford it.

Let's keep in mind the 670's are the chips that didn't make the 680 grade. You want to know why there is much more 670's constantly on sale over the 680? Your holding better chips that come stock 1006 MHz Base Core over 915 MHz Base Core.

Kind of silly for 680 club members to have regret. Last year the 580 had the same premium vs the 570 when over clocked could reach stock performance of 580. Nothing new. Imagine how the 6970 early adapters felt when the 6950 came out for less and a simple BIOS hack unlocked shaders to 6970 performance? This is the nature of the GPU industry.

To save yourselves from this next time you upgrade make sure you've viewed all the cards out before being the first kid on the block with a brand new shiny GPU in their rig. Just like the first people who bought large flat screen TV's and paid through the nose for them. It's the way it works.

Don't look back, enjoy your better card. Double click that favorite game icon on your desktop and forget about it. smile.gif

Not sure if i agree, seems the 670's are overclocking to 1300 on the core and scoring higher in 3dmark 11. 680's won't often reach 1300. We've been screwed. And the 670 owners are giddy that they might have voltage control too.

Yeah yeah, I'm too lazy to cable manage my setup. I still get good temps and 680s have a much lower TDPs than the 7970s they replaced, so heat isn't an issue.
