Ive had both

Gtx 680 is the Stronger card in most Aspects there are afew things the 7970 wins at but over all the 680 wins out.

If you want the 1300mhz overclock just get the 680 i linked to you.. Honest 1300mhz 100%

That 7970 was the highest Factory overclocked 7970 comes 1100mhz out of the box.

It would do 1250mhz runs very hot and uses alot more power.

Now lets not turn this to a Green vs red fan boy brawl so lets just leave this at that.

you're just the one I need! +rep for the info

what OC can I expect with a reference 7970? would its average OC beat my 1233mhz OC'd gtx 680. let's be honest here I have a crappy oc'ing card. most of you guys have at least 1250mhz. I can't really say this 1233mhz is totally stable. I've ran it heaven for 2 hours last night and it was stable (maxed everything even AA at 1920x1200)but when I played crysis 2 it crashed 30 minutes in. It didn't crash when I played on it before also played shogun 2 for hours and it was full load all the time. I'm getting realyl frustrated tbh frown.gif

Yeah I've had both 7970s and 680s and I prefer the 680s. Much quieter and just way less problems in general, at least in a CF vs SLI perspective. Plenty of 7970s won't even match 1200MHz, a mate got one a little while ago and it topped out at 1175MHz regardless of voltage

No i bought a Sapphire duel OC ed which many say to be the best 7970 and it would only do 1190mhz Both 7970s had Asic rating of 65% and 63% both my 680s are 100% asic

1233mhz is not bad.. Most of these guys are using that Volt mod to get those clocks....

If you want 1300mhz easy mode just get a Galaxy SoC Hall of fame.. you cant miss it only 680 with a white pcb.

im from manila and from where I'm from there's not much 680's we can choose from. we have a lot in stock here but in terms of choices mostly it's just reference cards and some custom inno3d coolers.

the word "volt mod" just got me excited.

what is this volt mod you speak off? I hope it's not anything hard like soldering/modding transistors. is this a bios reflashing or something similar? I'm really interested in doing this. I'm not really expecting monster overclocks. even a STABLE 1250mhz I'd be really happy. my measly 1233mhz OC crashes on crysis 2. it happened only once but It got me really frustrated. the thought of lowering my overclock even more is killing me

I know OCN Users don't t normally take kindly to Laptop users..
But would there be an exception to add the first 680M GTX to the list?
It is on a 28nm GK104 Kepler after all thumb.gif

(Yes i know performance is around a stock 670GTX desktop anyway..)
heh... Cost just about as much as a 680GTX as well -_-

I would stick with the 680 if you need more power them get another one. Isn't the 7970 x2 GPUs? If so that is why it would beat a single 680. I sold my 6990 and can't be more thrilled to be back with Nvidia. With AMD cards drivers where a pain and BF3 loaded slower than it does with my 680. I also had weird lag during the death animation and getting knifed. Doesn't happen anymore, Ultra settings with vsync defaults 680 clocks and very smooth. Plus Nvidia is releasing another GPU in October, November from what I see in the net. The 680 rocks!!
