No, its for people who think that they need more vram then they really do. I guess that if you were using eyefinity resolutions in sli then maybe you might run into a few games where the extra vram can help.

Honestly it's all dependant on what the user does, If he runs games with TONS of texture mods, even on 1080p Vram usage can go up and above 2gb. also remember a few years back when having a 1gig card was plenty, now look at it, 4 gigs is a lot more future proof

Heatkiller backplate ghetto install without water block, yet. biggrin.gif Speaking of Crysis 2, I just installed it today. Got it for 11.99 on Gamepoop. I had some credit from D2D for 43.00 dollars and when I used it to buy Crysis 2 max edition they took the rest back. I should have 31.00 dollars of credit left. mad.gif

Thebracket with the fan bracket is 14$ shipped. it is a 92mm fan

You can get Antec 620s used for 40$ shipped.. i have 2 Antec 620s lol..

The install on a scale 1-10 10 being the hardest id say between 4 and 5..

You just have to be very careful Gpus are so easy to break..

The huge Advantage of this over a custom loop is.. a water block is like 120$ +
you have to buy one for every card generation...
With this you just remove it put the stock heatsink back on and sale the card...
Then just install it on the new card great re use value..

Now if your 56c on air your gonna be in the low 40s with this bad boy lol

I get mid 50s with mine but my room is in the high 70s.

Hey guys. I have some serious decisions to make here.

My build has paused a moment. Mainly because I was tired of pouring money into it while I starved, but, I need to finish. I know everything that I want. Included is the Asus 27" 3D monitor here. (this won't change)

The thing that bothers me is the GPU. My first want was the 690. But, for the longest my heart has been set on the EVGA 680 FTW 4GB.

I'll probably never go 3 monitors for games. Only the one, but I will always have a second one for web browsing and such as I use the main for Netflix and some games that I can refer to info on the second.

Is the 680 4GB one overkill? I do want to run games at the highest settings with the bells and whistles and great FPS.

I understand 4GB's is probably overkill for one monitor, but I have experienced problems with games while the 2nd monitor is turned on not even using it for the game. I know what I have is a GTS-250 1 Gig, but windows adds another 3 gigs to it?

Just some opinions and suggestions would be great here. Thanks.
Grateful

If you are going to be using an HDTV as a monitor at some point in the future, or dual monitors for certain games, then I'd recommend the 4GB just to cover all the bases.

If you are aiming for futureproofing, then it is perfectly fine. As of right now, there are a few games that actually cache more than 2GB of VRAM. For instance, BF3 will do it if you run it too long due to a leak at too high of settings. (It will linger around 2.3GB of VRAM for me on my current card. My 680 is in the mail.)

If you don't use the VRAM in an application now, then you might later on this year, or next year. Consider it peace of mind.

just did benches on my gtx 680. a solid decrease from my 480 SLI but well worth it given the thermal and power efficiency difference

Folks question

I currenty purchased a Zotac GTX 670 4gb and it uses the 680 design. The 680 cooler and PCB.

How is the quality of the 680 fans?

If i run it at 75%-80% would it make an impact on the lifecycle of the fan?

Alright everyone, I've been reading this for a bit and I just have a couple questions. I'm coming from a 6970 and I want a 680 bad. I've been looking at the 4GB versions but my question is, do these use the reference design? I'm wanting to know because I am gonna be putting everything on water and I don't want to struggle finding a block. I'd like to make sure the XSPC 680 block will fit these. I'm assuming that they are reference but there are about 4-5 different versions of it on Newegg. Any help is appreciated. I will check the water cooling forums as well.
