does the power target in precision X actually do anything? i'm leaving it at 100% for testing and i'm currently at +140 gpu and it runs at 1.175v and no hiccups.

It allows higher power consumption, so it doesn't throttle the carad.

Try 132% and see if your performance improves against 100%.

Hi,

And i see it has only 1.98tflops instead of around 3tflops -_-. Did you test this at stock 1006mhz or with turbo or OC?

I get 1.843 tflops with a 570gtx @ 965mhz and it looks pretty accurate, sisoft sandra (video test) shows the same 1.85 tflops

Samaritan demo apparently needs 2.5flops, hehe yeah maybe with real aa.. Well it ran ok on 680gtx with fxaa and now i bet it will be ok at mine too biggrin.gif

I thought my 580 was quite idle and fairly ok even when full throttle in games. I think the reason people say the GTX 680 is quieter is because it runs cooler and thus the fans don't have to ramp up as high even if custom fan settings are exactly the same from previous 580. So end result it's quieter.
To give you an idea here are some noise benchmarks from various tech sites.

Tweak Town Source to view better. This was one of the better graphs including many cards.

Hey thanks for taking the time to pull these up for me, much appreaciated. Those level seem to be pretty good. I have a Cosmos 2 case...it has a ton of room on the inside, so I am assuming I should be in a good shape then. I have 3 cougar fans pull air out of top (till I get an h100 and do push/pull), one 140mm cougar as rear exhaust, two enermax TB silence fans on side door as intake, two as hdd intakes & a 200mm & 120mm intake fans.

Think I am going to also add another two fans on the upper HDD cage since they have the holes for them. So, it's looking like I will get an reference card then...I dont really feel like waiting for a more expensive non-ref design as 500 is already a lot (so says the guy that bought a $300+ case rolleyes.gif). Thanks for the info again.

Btw MSI or EVGA? doubt it matters since they are all reference but looking for customer care here. Thanks!

Sounds like you've given it some thought. I would go with EVGA due to their customer support is the best. Three year warranty is now serial based and transferrable. If something should go wrong EVGA supports over clocking, water blocking and USA based.

Nothing wrong with MSI. Good quality. No difference in reference models. Either way your good to go. thumb.gif

I'm not sure what clocks I'm running at because for some reason I can't get the thing to go higher than 1253mhz despite power only being 100% (power target = 132%) and temp only 60c. Not sure why it won't go up any more.

What memory and core settings are you using?

Your 7970 stock scores seems a bit low , but this 77fps at crysis 2 /central park , is a damn good score.... damn good indeed...biggrin.gif

so your running your card STOCK FAN PROFILE (not custom fan curve or manual fan speed??) and your card doest pass 60c whats your ambient? keep these coming so I can have more proof to evga that they need to advance rma me another card because this vacuum cleaner im dealing with is unacepable for me to stay under 70c (and by under i mnea like 68-69c) i need it at 80% even at 85% manual fan its peaking 66-67c+
