I thought my 580 was quite idle and fairly ok even when full throttle in games. I think the reason people say the GTX 680 is quieter is because it runs cooler and thus the fans don't have to ramp up as high even if custom fan settings are exactly the same from previous 580. So end result it's quieter.

Hey thanks for taking the time to pull these up for me, much appreaciated. Those level seem to be pretty good. I have a Cosmos 2 case...it has a ton of room on the inside, so I am assuming I should be in a good shape then. I have 3 cougar fans pull air out of top (till I get an h100 and do push/pull), one 140mm cougar as rear exhaust, two enermax TB silence fans on side door as intake, two as hdd intakes & a 200mm & 120mm intake fans.
Think I am going to also add another two fans on the upper HDD cage since they have the holes for them. So, it's looking like I will get an reference card then...I dont really feel like waiting for a more expensive non-ref design as 500 is already a lot (so says the guy that bought a $300+ case
