What drivers to load first

Thread Starter
Having a ridiculously hard time with drivers (certainly my own fault but I am new). I am wondering what order you guys work in when you boot your builds for the first time. I have not been able to get my nvidia driver to work to save my life (just freezes on windows 7 splash screen)

I have been doing the minimum amount of board drivers (chipset LAN and USB) then doing windows updates and trying to load nvidia driver, with no luck. Should I load all the mobo drivers and utilities before I do invedia drivers?

I flashed the most recent bios, and tweaked a few inevitable settings (ahci) I haven't turned ram up to 1600 or anything yet. I am so sorry if these are stupid questions that get asked daily but I am so stuck right now, it has been days and I have made no progress.

Build is,
Z68xp-ud3
i7 2600k
16gigs ram
Gtx550ti (which I can not get working)

I have tested the card in another computer it works and I have tested another card on this board and it works.

Just to get the ball rolling i usually load the chipset and lan drivers first. Connect to the net and run windows update. Then head over to your video card's manufacture and DL the most recent drivers to your desktop for easy finding when you insall.

That is pretty much the exact order that I downloads them in, I just am having trouble seeing what would comflict with the enviidea driver. I have looked over all of my bios settings and can not see what the problem could be

I don't think you're problem has much to do with the order you installed drivers. I think you just need a fresh and proper install of your GPU drivers.

First, make sure you have the right drivers. If you're using Win 32 bit, get the 32 bit drivers, if 64 bit, get the 64 bit drivers. Very important. Second, follow the steps here at the geforce forums to a "T" and see if that helps. Doing this has always cleared up any driver issues I'm having with my nvidia cards.

Also, I'm not sure if you have more than 1 GPU, but if you do, try installing drivers with only one card present, then install the other cards after.

Followed the instructions to a t, tried there newest one and a few of the older ones. I don't know what the issue is here, but I am just completely stuck. I know the card works I know the slot works why they won't work together I don't know, it has to be some kind of weird . I am just gonna order an amd card. I am done with nvidia, I have spent days trying to figure it out and gotten nowhere.

Just follow the install order on your board install disc and if you download newer from Gigabyte they are generally listed in install order. Do you have any ? in device manager ? and did you install the Intel Management Engine Interface.

1. Install Windows 7 etc.

2. LAN Drivers, Activate windows.

3. Windows Update to grab 65+ Updates.

4. Then once restarted from that wait 6min, Run Windows Update again to grab the 3 more updates.

5. Once restarted from that Run Windows Update to install the .NET 4.

6. Windows Update again, to install the 7 .NET Updates.

7. Run the DirectX web installer

8. Install the Intel Chipset Device software. (I do this manually, Intel USB and the 6 or so other system devices.)

9. Install USB 3.0 driver if your using it.

10. Install Mouse driver.

11. Install Sound driver software.

12. Install Graphics driver NVIDIA 296.10 etc.

13, Last step after the restart is to wait 12min for the system to settle down then Run the Windows Experience Index, once this is done let the system sit untouched for 22min, This is how long it takes for the WEI stuff to do its magic, It fine tunes your system. (it turns off superfetch if your using a SSD and it does a few other things), It will still fine tune stuff in the background if your using the computer but I like to just let it do its thing, hehe OCD ? lol smile.gif

i always install chipset before all else, then intel management drivers, then SATA, then USB, Audio, NIC, VGA.

However if you have a driver disk, i just press auto and it installs in the correct order.
