AMD Barcelona, say hello to quad. - Page 3

I dunno why all you people are all, "we dont neeeds it"! Yes, we do. Progress is Progress and if more cores gets us the super efficient, uber powerful designs we need, then so be it. The reason why we can't utilise multi-core is not because of the hardware, thats perfectly capable, but the software. The software desingers REALLY need to hurry their ass up and start multi-threading stuff. Tough programming or not, it's the future and has to be done.

Btw, for those that are complete conroe fanboys, ****. Conroe might be the muts nuts atm, but AMD WILL come up with something. Wheather they only control the server market or control all of the market, we don't know.

These 'tweaks' to the current K8 system could actually be a shortening of the pipelines or tighter L1, L2 and L3 timings. Don't forget that theres also alot of CPU design stuff that non of us knows, and probably never will.

Im kidding. Im still stuck with a P4. Its plenty fast for me, but I would like to go dual core in the future and Conroe is the best bang for the buck right now.

I guess the L3 is slower than the L2, else there wouldn't be no point in having 2 different cache areas.

Both AMD and Intel have made good products. AMD had the upper hand for years, and now Intel took over, at least for the second half 2006 and first half 2007.

The Barcelona seems good, but I feel AMD has to come with something that significantly beats Kentsfield (and not to forget Clovertown), otherwise Intel might have gotten too strong a foothold, and AMD will have a hard time claiming market share in the multiple core markets.

Let's hope AMD comes through.

My opinion on this matter is that the Core 2 architecture will stay ontop for a long time to come but AMD will keep a hold of the market with their low pricing. Being able to undercut Intel should help them keep some of their market.

So far, what I have heard about 4x4, it's going to be very expensive. And Intel has priced their CPU's very aggressively recently, giving AMD a real hard time matching or beating those prices
