[TweakTown] nVidia Geforce GTX 680 (Kepler) 2GB Reference Card Video Card Review - Page 12

I am impressed, the card is nearly as fast as the HD6990/GTX590 in some of the tests.

Let me guess.. the drivers are unoptimized, right?

The GTX 680 is a mid-range solution that has been clocked to the moon and back. The price of this? Power consumption. It looks like Kepler isn't the miracle you guys thought it was. Nvidia just sent the clocks through the roof on their mid-range solution.

Don't get me wrong. The performance is crazy good... but then again, the HD 7970 can be clocked extremely high too, and it will just barely reach that level of power usage. I think some of you guys got punked by nvidia... again.

Oh, stop it already with the AMD fanboyism.

Well, considering the 680 can reach 1264MHz.... the 7970 can't do all that much more than it. Also consider that the GK104 was originally a 706MHz GPU so that's a, what... 558MHz increase already? I'd also be willing to bet that the 680 can go higher too, if pushed there.

For all you guys bickering over OC's

THIS review by Hardwareheaven pits the MAX OC of an MSI 7970 Lightning against a STOCK GTX680. Look at it. Just look at it.

Its ridiculous. AMD better drop their prices O.o

Is that pounds or euros?... I've never been able to remember which is which... if pounds, screw that at $685 AUS and $710 USD... =/ Euros wouldn't be so bad $570 AUS and $591 USD. I'm thinking that the 680 is gonna be around $650+ here in Australia though, 7970's range from $599 > $749.

We pay 10% GST (Goods and Services Tax) on all our shiz, but that's included in the price whenever something is listed for sale. So we usually end up paying more for things than some other countries. I could probably get them cheaper in US than Aus though, as currently Aus dollar is $1.036 USD.

I wouldn't wait for Maxwell... you'd be waiting till the end of 2014 for those. Just wait and see what the 690, 780 and 790 bring to the table. AMD will be dead in the water compared to those cards if a mid-range GPU on a high-end card can overall beat their current high-end.
