Dual channel is achieved using 2 of the same memory module type.

E.G 2 X 512MB = 1GB Dual channel.

Single channel is achieved using 1 Memory module or multiple modules that dont all match.

Do older Motherboards support dual channel?
Because i might be able to improve performance.

Depending on how old your motherboard is, some Socket A motherboards support it. It all depends on the chipset, go to "User CP" and fill in your system info. If you don't know what exactly you have in your case, download "Everest Home Edition" from

www.oldversion.com
or go to
www.lavalys.com
an download the ultimate trial version, as they stopped production on the home edition.

Unsure of your exact question here.

But if you mean can you have 3 modules running at once like 2 in dual channel and add one extra module. The short answer would be depends on the motherboard but if you have all three running you will loose your dual channel configuration.

What motherboard ?
What RAM modules do you wish to run ?

Yea it's early, I fixed it.

As said some old motherboards do support it but with old technology such as Socket A it really does depend on the chipset involved.
