Intel 64bit - Page 2

No desktop processor by the Intel Corporation is in reality a 64 bit processor.

For a processor to be a true 64 bit processor it must be based on Intel Architecture 64 (for Intel processors).

Current Intel desktop processors incorporate 64 bit extensions (EM64T) allowing 64 bit code to be understood and processed. However the feature set is limited, and is slow in comparision to a IA-64 processor or equivalent.

The reason why x86-64 extensions are used is because IA-64 can not process 32 bit information without the use of a slow 32 bit decoder

64BIT Extensions arnt as good as True 64BIT.
