So performance at similar clocks is actually...similar....Oh well, at least they brought comparable performance even though they are 3 months late

Please keep flame throwing devices off.

What we have here is just good news.

Despite the fact NVidia PR team did a great dirty job at creating more hype than they should, that green chip is a monster.

Now I have hope that I will be able to buy a 7970 (or a GTX 680) below 400$ by the end of the year because the battle is starting now. Both companies can hit the other, AMD cannot sell their chip at the current price for a sub Ghz reference card anymore.

My only problem is that my brave old Q9400 will have to retire before upgrading to one of these. cryingsmiley.gif

That's what I wanted to see. Great overclock scores and a super nice card; however, it's not enough for me to go to the trouble of breaking down my loop and selling what I have.

To everyone that has waited for this card: enjoy!

I wonder if the 7970 will have more life down the road. It looks like the tougher the gpu load the better the 7970 does. It fares well in Metro but gets stomped in farcry2, for instance.

Actually... anandtech's review shows the 7970 getting its ass handed to it at high settings in BF3 by the 680
