[Various] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Review: Retaking The Performance Crown - Page 14

I am quoting the 6% because Techpowerup is the review site with the largest number of games reviewed and really has the most definitive numbers. Definitely a 7990 for me.

What are you talking about. I was and still am very impressed with the 7970. The fact that the 680 beats it (by more than 6% actually) is astounding to me, especially considering its much higher efficiency. Even AMD fanboys [H] had to admit that the 680 is the clear winner here.

Obviously if you already have a 7970 there is no reason to jump ship (unless the better tess performance is important to you). But if you are new to this generation of cards there really is no reason at all to choose a 7970 over a 680....

or a price drop from AMD

Yes as i said, at max possible stable OC that many normal users could do, the 7970 would pull ahead and only on par in some benchmarks. I will buy a GTX 680 since i like to run my cards at stock but i would hope people would stop bashing 7970 owners or advising them to sell their 7970s for the GTX 680 and lose $$ in the process.

If you have read most of the reviews when OC'd the 7970 is as fast or faster. Bottom line is except for Power Consumption which I and you are on record saying we both could really care less about the card is kind of a dissapointment.

Finally. Like NVIDIA themselves said, the cards trade blows.

That being said, I will probably buy a 680, because I have been with AMD a long time and want a changeup. IB+680...or whatever is out when 680 shows up.

I am curiour to see if pcie3 changes the performance of these cards at all.

call me stupid but I'd choose the gtx680 over the HD7970 simply because I like the look better and red will spoil my theme lmao. 480 SLI to GTX 680 is a great upgrade and I think everyone else will agree. gtx 680 here I come

http://vr-zone.com/articles/asus-gtx-680-2gb-overclocking-review-win-some-lose-some/15322-6.html

We're pretty sure that most (sanctioned) reviews that you'll read on the Internet today will unashamely proclaim that the GTX 680 is the best single card around, but the truth is most users who buy these cards are going to overclock their cards to the limit and then both Nvidia and AMD flagships are going to trade wins at the top. The lackluster compute performance and inferior memory bandwidth will hurt the GTX 680 in multi-screen, maxed out image quality, high end gaming. We also estimate that the BOM (Bill of Materials) cost on the HD 7970 is higher, given the higher end VRMs/more phases and larger cooling system.

That's all really. GG for Nvidia on 50% better performance.
