Wow. Even in SLI, the 680s can't break 60 frames on Metro 2033.

How can people believe that? $500 for mainstream card.
I honestly don't think so.
They think that because Nvidia might have something bigger being worked on, that this is not the 680.

If you look at the chip size and specs of your 480 vs a 460, this becomes clear.
Nvidia HAD to do something to counter the 7970, and GK100 wasn't ready, had issues, or whatever, we don't know what happened to it.
I look forward to GK110 ( 780? ) the true High End chip.
If you're looking for the high end chip, you're looking at it. This is the flagship, and just because a die isn't 550mm2 doesn't mean it ISN'T the flagship.

Tracking number finally updated and my cards left CA 3 hours ago and are on their way to Iowa. Coming tomorrow morning, overnight shipping rules! thumb.gif

I suspect Metro, AVP, and a few other titles will improve over time. You got to remember the drivers were just released. They are comparing it to 3 month old 7970 drivers, which should be more stable and more optimized (in theory). It would be interesting to see the 680 vs 7970's release drivers.

Again, perhaps your overlooking the simplest part of this..!  $499 ..!!

The gtx680 is the single most powerful video card... & it debuted in @ under $500. It is well though-out, efficient & well rounded.

EVERYTHING will now have to react to this new price point..! Right?

But, over the long-term, this card in 10~11 months will be pushed mid-stream. It is the 8800GT/GTS/GTX all over again.

Even if/when AMD slams Us with the 7990 (which I hope they do, I want), Nvidia can easily drop the GTX 680 to $489 to stem tempted buyers off, or at least offer/entice 4GB cards and boutique 680/85's...etc.

Or, do you only look one day ahead..?

Hey guys,

7970 owner here. I have a question for you 680GTX owners/future owners

We've already seen that the gtx680 can match the 7970 clock for clock and in extreme modded overclocks, but how much does the average gtx overclock on air? Cause it's all well and good to say the 680 beats the 7970 when its clocked 75MHz higher off the bat...

The 7970 can more often than not hit 1250MHz on air. If the gtx680 can do this, then it's the clear winner...otherwise, the 50$ difference might be justified.

hmm, not sure bout thermal, but power draw is certainly in check..i think most of the review left fan at auto which usually resulting in higher overall temp..just set manually 60/70% like always, then it should be not problem, imo..
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/03/22/nvidia_kepler_gpu_geforce_gtx_680_video_card_review/13
suspecting that maybe due to new turbo-boost..core boosted differently across benched resulting inconsistent power draw..again, just imho..

some benches with OC

*not sure about vrzone result because they got better FPS from 6970 then GTX580 in BF3

They trade blows when both are overclocked, while at stock it performs better in most games and only loses slightly in a very few. I suspect drivers will improve on the 680 more than the 7970 because they are newer, so really it's too early to tell if the 680 will pull ahead of the 7970 instead of trading blows when overclocked. The GTX 680 is still more efficient, and at a lower price point so it is a better buy in my eyes. I don't really think it would be a worthy upgrade if you have your 7970 at 1250+ core already unless you just want to mess around with new hardware.

Voltage is set automatically and dynamically as the card increases in frequency. Setting a manual voltage override does not really help you much anymore.

Most cards can do in the +150MHz to +200MHz range. But of course there is no way to say exactly what frequency this is because there are many variables. Power, heat and app all play a role.
