Picking a 3D monitor

Thread Starter
Hi OCN, I looking at getting a 3D monitor for my new build, but obviously there are too many choices out there, which each has their pros and cons.

I'm mostly going to be watching movies and shows in 3D, and also playing some Dota2 in 2D (maybe 3D) mode, so which monitor would suit me best?
My budget is $300+- AUS Dollars, and the monitor size 20-24" would be good enough.
So far I have looked at the Samsung 700D, 750D 950D, and the BenQ XL2410T, where the prices are:

Samsung 700D:$289
Samsung 750D (23inch):$285
Samsung 950D (23Inch):$359
BenQ XL2410T: $249 (On special)
Nvidia 3D Vision 2 kit: $179
Note: if I get the BenQ one I will also need to get the Nvidia 3D vision kit.

Or should I spend an extra $200 and get the BenQ XL2420T? If so is it worth the $200 extra?

From the reviews I've read/watched, people seem to say that the Samsungs' are great for 2D, but not so good for 3D and also some units have some back light bleeding issues.

Any other suggestions are also welcome, and please help me choose my first 3D monitor! thumb.gif

How about the 3D? People seem to be saying that the 3D on the Samsung ones are not as good as Nvidia ones.

Nvidia 3D is better but it costs more and you need a Nvidia GPU while you need AMD GPU to use the Samsungs 3D. In other words your decision needs to be based on what brand of video card you own/will own if you want to use 3D properly.

The 950D and 750D/700D are the same thing, no point in paying more for the 950D unless you don't have a displayport connector on your GPU or really like the look of the 950D. The first BenQ is cheap but there are better Nvidia options like the Asus VG236HE and BenQ XL2420T

As I said, this would be a new build, so the company the graphics card is from can be either one. The thing I'm more concern is the 3D effect, I want it to have good effect while watching movies etc. Also I don't want it to make me dizzy easily while watching movies. So which monitor would suit this situation?
Thank you

No one can tell you what will make you dizzy or not. If you find that 3D bothers you in theatres don't buy a 3D monitor. There is no point in recommending a monitor until you have decided which GPU you are going to buy.

3D movies are the same on both. The Samsung's offer 2D-3D conversion while the Nvidia displays have better 3D in games. 2D-3D Conversion is cool for some things but I found that most 2D content is better in 2D.

The best thing to do is see if there is a local store with a hassle free exchange policy that sells the Samsung's, that way you can try 3D for your self with an AMD GPU or with consoles assuming you have an HDMI 1.4a cord and some 3D movies or 3D compatible games. You can use the 2D-3D conversion with any GPU, but it introduces a lot of input lag so it is not good for gaming.

I see, thank you for helping me out! I'll try find a local store which has that policy, and see how it goes from there.
For the graphics card, I'm leaning more to the Nvidia side so Yea...

I see, I found a local store which has the 700D on display. I'll try test the 3D of that monitor out next week, and see how it goes.
Also I found another 3D monitors which fits my requirements:

AOC e2352Phz: $189

How does this monitor compare to the others?
