Random BSODs while playing BF3.

Thread Starter
Alright, this has happened about 6 times now and I'm 50% sure it has to do with AMD's drivers so that's why i'm posting here.

There are occasions where I get BSODs, not at any specific times either, it's 100% random, they can happen after 10 minutes, 3 hours, 1 hour 30 minutes, 5 hours, basically, like I said, it's completely random.

My temps are perfectly fine, as the Max CPU temp I get while playing is 38C

My graphics card isn't overheating either, as it stays around 58-65C while playing.

Most of the time I've gotten it didn't give a reason why it occurred, other times it would be DRIVER_IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

The latest time this happened though it was BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. I had my camera plugged in at this time so IDK if that would have affected anything.

One of the times when I got a BSOD, I restarted and AVAST told me PnkBstrA.exe might be potentially harmful software.

So far I've tried reinstalling AMD's drivers (12.2), that fixed other small issues I had, but not this one.

Any help is greatly appreciated, because I honestly have no clue what's going on.

It happened again, but this time I have more info.

It was yet again caused by DRIVER_IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

However, in the technical information it said usbhub.sys was the cause of it.

Could be an unstable OC. Did you run prime95 or a linpack stress test to make sure your OC was stable? If not, you're more then likely corrupting your OS and these errors have stacked up, causing your crashes.

It could also be memory related; try running memtest86 as well.

Just in my experience I had an AMD setup with a similiar OC and everything ran fine (Prime, IBT) but BF3 gave blue screens at random times. At stock or lower overclocks stabilized BF3.

I put my 6850 clock speeds at 750/950 instead of setting my CPu back to stock.

I was able to play a full game without a BSOD.

I did run Prime95 for about 5 hours when I OC'ed.
Plus I've never gotten Bluescreens in any other game, I can play GTA IV for 4 hours straight and everything is fine.

i think its your ram.

if not your ram i would consider re-installing windows. (driver conflicts?)

5 hours on prime95 is definitely not enough time to tell if your OC is stable; 8 hours is usually the bare minimum, 12 hours being recommended, with many people opting to run a full 24 hours. Running that OC without being 100% sure that it's stable risks the integrity and stability of your system's OS, and can render it unusable due to corruption accumulated overtime; one day it'll boot, the next it won't. An unstable overclock would give you the symptoms that you are currently experiencing, too.

Now, I'm not saying that your problems HAVE to be related to your OC being potentially unstable, but it seems a very logical culprit of these crashes. Just because your comp doesn't crash during other activities does not indicate that your OC is without fault; BF3 could be just exposing that instability during its run-time.
