[G3D] GTX680 is a Tessellation Monster - Page 2

Really? I can't really tell the difference at first glance between either version. That's kind of of the point though there are barely any games worth mentioning that you can even tell tesselation is being used. I gurantee you though when PS4/720 are out we will get way more support though. Remember when PC used to get exclusives? Or when Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 were coming out and no ones rigs ran them properly? I miss those days.

I was wondering that myself. Also, it says frames/second, but it's clearly the final score on the benchmark.

Those graphs need some serious TLC.

Not that I actually or anything but it but it'd be funny if AMD unlocked some 'tesselation core' or something on their 79xx revision.

Nice finally see a card that actually seems special and not just the exact same thing as the last card but '1.x' times faster.

Did you see the new cryengine 3 video Crytek hosted? They are adding more tesselation to other stuff like the ocean, character's face and more! It's gonna be STRESSFUL like Crysis 1 maybe but this card will HANDLE IT! I am looking forward getting this video card but i have to SAVE AND SAVE AND SAVE! I have no idea what power supply requirements are these gonna be. I also wondered if my processor won't be able to handle this card. Time for a huge upgrade. I have been waiting for this. I'm a freak when it comes to topping graphics in the game. I just wanna drool!drool.gif

30% faster then a 580 is 1.3X faster. The tesselation benchmarks are misleading. Game performance goes 580 GTX -20%- 7970 -10%- 680GTX.

Don't think for a second either manufacturer is doing anything different then what they've done before.

The 7870 and 7970 have fixed function units on the die for tessellation.
(In the architecture diagrams, they are located in what are called "Geometry Engines")

HD7970-16.jpg

Because the 7870 is clocked a bit higher, this part runs a bit faster.

Tesselation, past a certain, low level, is totally wasted in most current games and apps. Unigine itself makes this apparent. The high tessellation settings don't improve the look, they make it look ridiculous.

I'm not complaining about progress, but there are far more important factors than tessellation.

This will be great for folding@home and programs that require a lot of processing power like scientific work. smile.gif I actually think Nvidia might be pulling away from AMD at the moment.
