A few questions about my crossfire temps

Thread Starter
Alright well ever since I got a soundcard plugging up my poor second 5770's fan, my temps blow. It it ok to have my fans running at 100% all the time (When im gaming) as I dont mind the sound bc I wear headphones and I like to keep the temps as low as possible (high 70's at max fan speed, 80+ if fans are running slower) Im waiting for some new TIM to come in as I've never repasted these cards. Ugh next time I'll get a motherboard that will allow space for crossfire and soundcard...

It's totally fine to run your card's fan at max speeds, especially if the sound doesn't bother you.

70c would be unacceptable to me, but it's honestly ok, and you should be totally fine; I'm just picky, so I watercool...

If you're still worried:
Do you have another slot you can stick the soundcard? OR, can you add another fan anywhere that would increase airflow? Can you improve your cable management? (I don't know what yours looks like)

no cable management is quite good...my motherboard is sabertooth 990fx. Either the graphics cards have a slot between them and the bottom card is blocked by sound, or they're right together and the top card cant breath bc the bottom one is in the way. It really is unnacceptable for me too, because it's not full summer yet this will get worse. Best option is to lose sound card but I love the quality of sound and I just spend 100 bucks on the soundcard. I have many fans, 4x120 (2 on cpu) and 4 140mm. No more room.

Last summer I ended up taking the side door off (thus losing one side fan) and putting a REAL fan next to my pc. lol it was huge. But that was BEFORE I had sound card. now I'm f'ed. I'm hoping new thermal paste will save the day. I used to run so cool in my AC apartment in FL but now Im in NYC. No AC here.

Well, the new TIM might drop you a few degrees, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you're committed to air cooling, you can always buy aftermarket coolers for your 5770, if you can get them still. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you can find a website that has 5770 blocks dirt cheap, as it's a pretty dated card, a least by waterblock demand standards.

Going underwater next build...these are non ref cards anyways, and past thier due date. Not worth spending the money. It's just time to upgrade. Going intel/nvidia most likely, for the first time. I want to max crysis 2 sooo bad at 120 hz.

Once you watercool, you never want to go back to air cooling; ever.

Just so you know. tongue.gif
