[Build Log] 650 Dominator [3770k, GTX 680 SLi] - Page 4

Thread Starter
I feel like it's "coming together", but not really. I decided to put it together over the weekend and use my P55 / i7 760 / 4GB RAM to get the system up and running. Basically gutted my old rig and used the 680s instead.

For some quick benches, here's 3dmark11 http://3dmark.com/3dm11/3098687;jsessionid=ljwqw9bf04gfztnr1nmbk0kr

Wiring problems

I've been trying to keep everything as clean as I possibly can. If anyone has some build logs or some good techniques to help me out to keep everything clean, please feel free to give it to me. But now the mobo side of the case cover bulges out because there's just to many wires brushing up against it. I might give it another run tomorrow morning.

Second time SLIing

Can the 680s be this close? Looks like the first slot is running 9C warmer because it's pulling in hot air from the other card... gah.

Status

Currently the SSD is plugged in, only. Win 7 and Win 8 CS are dual booted. i5 760 at 4GHz, 4GB ram. Pretty basic stuff going on right now.

Can you not stick the second 680 into a different slot to improve airflow? With two cards you're going to be running both at x8 speeds instead of x16 most likely. Not sure about the mobo's you're using, bust most can only run maxed out at x8 speeds with more than one slot populated.

I'm pretty sure those slots are both x16 ...

That was why I used those two instead of the x8 and x16, which brings them both down to x8...

pretty sure on both boards (your P55, and the one you listed in the OP) will run SLI in x8/x8..
even though they are x16 length slots, that's just how the NB runs the PCI-e lanes

I just put it down 1 and now it's running in x4 and can't even run in SLI smile.gif

Yeah, the 2 cards being in the top 2 x16 slots is the only way you can run on that board (P55) as the 3rd x16 slot is only wired for x4.
It's ok to have em that close together as long as there's decent airflow through your case.

Yea... figured.

So a little status update. I'm going to wait for the 3770k and do that over the 3930k. I'm also going to get 4 240GB SSDs to put in RAID0+1, just not sure which ones yet.

So will boot times be measured in milliseconds?
