there are no other adapters in a x51 to be able to make this work for a 7970. only a 7950 will work without serious modding. also, the tdp on a 7970 is too high for a x51.

What he is saying is that the 7970 doesn't really NEED the 8 pin and you can use 2x 6 pin with an adapter just fine.

Now whether it physically fits, or your PSU has the oomph to power it is another matter.....

what HE doesnt realize is that the OP was talking about a 7950, not a 7970. he's asking a stupid question and obviously didnt take the time to read the op's post. A 7970 will not only not fit in an x51, the psu wont power it either.

Thanks! I had been looking through some benchmarks, and the mid-range 500-series cards really trash those 280s. It's pretty impressive.
