[digi tech] Zotac's 2GHz GTX680 coming in mid April - Page 7

Yeah, nah.

If its a truly full fledged 2ghz 680 then I'll buy whoever pm's me first one on the day of release, on my honor.
I think what Zotac meant was

"We are going to sell GTX680s capable of reaching 2Ghz *whether they need LN2 or not"

Cos frankly, this aint possible, unless they start searching for extremely golden cards.

Maybe 1350Mhz but 2000Mhz is not possible with 28nm. To begin with the have to beef up the card so much. Then have Some kind of Water Cooling Solution, 3 x 8-Pins. All that being Said it will be bottlenecked by memory speeds.

Either he meant "a card capable of 2GHz" or he was confused, misquoted or taken out of context.

I can just see the ZOTAC engineers now:

doh.gifWhat did he just say? 2GHz? And now they expect us to build that? doh.gif

I have been in a similar position; my manager came to be once and said "this is what the marketing department has promised our customers, can you make it?" to which my reply was "sure, if you don't mind me breaking a few rules.... Of thermodynamics..."

Ok guys, I'm with you on the 2GHz is a far stretch from conventional cooling.

But.... What would it mean if they did it? 2GHz on water out of the box stable? Un-comprehensible fps in games? Full saturation of pci-e prooving the need for 4.0 that was discussed a few months ago?

What are the implications (dreams in this case) of performance from this type of card? Wouldn't this HAVE to elevate highly above just gaming?

Debate biggrin.gif

Maybe if Zotac drops the Memory from 6GHZ to 2GHZ this could happen! They could call it a budget model wink.gif

Can PCI 3.0 even be saturated at the moment?

If this were true (which I am almost sure it isn't) I would expect there to be a fairly large trade-off OR it will be like double to triple the price of a regular 680.
