I should have posted this in the AMD section. Nobody is giving me any specific reasons why. rolleyes.gif

To be honest I never have issues with AMD drivers. Of course there are times where you need to find the driver that suits you best and that can be a hassle but for the most part once you get the right driver its all butter from there on. Not sure whats up with all the users that are reporting bad/fail drivers from AMD, they either have no patience to find the right driver or they are uninstalling previous drivers incorrectly. To the OP, in all fairness it comes down to what suits you best and what you really want. IMHO the 680's should yield a bit more performance and yes the drivers will be superior but it comes at a cost when you are getting free water blocks with the 7970's. I would take the 7970's just for the fact that if you so not like the outcome you can sell them and buy a pair of 680's with WB's.Win Win biggrin.gif

I also like the fact that AMD can do Eyefinity with 2 screens. Now before all of you start yelling why I would ever consider using Eyefinity with 2 screens, I do want to say that it's actually OK for most games without a crosshair (ie: SC2, HoN).

I think the biggest issue, or so that I have seen, is that the drivers aren't always uninstalling cleanly. So then many start using things like Driver Sweeper and ATIMAN which just makes matters worse. Using some of these 3rd party applications is like using a nuke to a kill a fly, which in turn creates _more_ issues.

I say, if you use the supported releases, and stay away from the RCs and Previews, the drivers will in likely be acceptable, but you'll probably still have some minor annoyances. Like I posted earlier, they still aren't near what I would consider rock solid, but if you do the installs and uninstalls via the control panel, and the way the developers intend, I think you'll probably be okay. Don't get me wrong, AMD still has some work to do, so you probably won't be able to just install them and not touch them again--these aren't 'those kind of drivers,' lol. So you may need to tweak a thing or two to get around some of the gotchas that come with a driver that still needs some polishing, I'd be prepared for that.

I think this is the fairest way I can put it, based on my experiences.

I can honestly say they I have never had any REAL problems with AMD drivers myself both xfire and single GPU. Same goes for Nvidia, I truely believe it comes down to user error. Sure there are issues with game performance when they first come out but the same goes for Nvidia as well (witcher 2 anyone??). I sold my 2 580s because I didnt need that much power and I also wanted to be able to max out The Witcher 2 without having to wait 6 months for nvidia the fix it.

Neither of them are perfect, I am not a fanboy, I just buy what is the best for my budget at the time, which is what everyone should do.

7970 driver issues are not purely due to user error. This is fact. Not trying to be rude, but this is just false (in regard to the 7970s) and it's not fair for people reading this thread in hopes of finding valid information.

You don't have to take my word for it, you can take the word from this 800+ page thread (a lot of which is users seeking help with driver issues):

I've never had major issues with either Nvidia or AMD drivers. Some minor headaches that's all. I've owned both SLI/CF setups. I am also looking forward to getting a second 7970 since my last CF was 5850.

I would say go for it. If you are an IQ junkie like me AMD drivers are way better as far as proper MS/SSAA support right now in games that do not natively support it. And to be honest I'm not sure how anyone that has multiple card setups isn't an IQ junkie.

Anyone telling you either Nvidia or AMD drivers is way better then the other simply doesn't know what they're talking about. It's easy to link to a thread of people having problems with new hardware. Check out the 680 overclocking thread and you'll see the same thing.

For me the 7970 simply wins this round because of the superior OCability and the fact the 680 has no voltage control I personally think is embarassing in a 500 dollar video card. To each his own however.

I have 2 other friends that have CF set ups identical to mine.... except the motherboards are asus p67 pros. My buddies and I never had one problem with AMD drivers. I'm not being a fanboy either.... my other buddy has a gtx 560 sli set up with no driver issues either. I would go with whichever gives you better performance. I don't get how people having problems on a fresh install? It's not like the driver gets lazy and says " naw bro I dont feel like working, enjoy the BSODs."

I guess there is some mystery with AMD drivers that no one can explain.....rolleyes.gif
