I totally believe you dude. I've never had huge issues with either as well. The way I can tell people are lying when they talk about how bad AMD drivers are is when they describe them as being so bad that the product simply doesn't work. Or when they say 'they're just bad, trust me'.

Both drivers I've found have their quirks and every now and then a new release will be borked for a couple days (See Rage last year) but that's pretty much the extent of it. I've found the major issue for CF and SLI is that some games simply don't support it. Sometimes though at least on the AMD side you can force it with Radeon Pro and get some positive scaling out of it. Not sure if Nvidia has a similar program.

No they aren't. For some people they work straight away, for others there is a little bit of trial and error, but there've been very few people who have had no driver work for them. I was one of those people initially, but it turned out that I was having problems because my motherboard was faulty, and it seemed obvious to blame it on the card at first.

Just do what you want to do. If you want to get 7970s, get them!

You don't have to take my word for it, you can take the word from this 800+ page thread (a lot of which is users seeking help with driver issues):

im in agreement with this. im going to chalk it down to driver issues. both camps are having problems as of late. im having problems with my current card just like i was with my 7970. thats why its in my bench rig. everything is a hot mess at the moment.

Immature drivers can be just as problematic as still new, but slightly more mature drivers.

To be honest, all of my current issues stem from benchmarking or being idle too long on desktop.  (7970 CFX user)

There has also been discussion that my most annoying issue involving ULPS / ZeroPower state is being resolved.

More stable drivers (non-OC crashes to desktop or driver recovery) and non-crashing idle on Desktops, I think would go a long way with us, and I personally don't like AMDs drivers.  Take that for what you will.

I also was a very early 590 adopter (Geforce) and got to experience the full wrath of driver restrictions with PDL/OCP.  I had to dedicate a huge thread to discussion on how best to work around nVidia's extremely boneheaded restrictions.

I think the nVidia's driver appear more "system" stable, they don't usually take down the whole system when they do fail.

The performance / hardware is there for both cards, I really think it boils down 100% to drivers.

Either way, you better benchmark in the OCN Battle Royale :)

EVERYONES experience with drivers are different.
Some work some don't.
These things happen. People jump on the hate wagon(Very much so with AMD) As soon as they hear people having problems.
Then when people say they don't have any problems(Very much so with AMD, again) it gets disregarded like they are lying.

I have had issues with the past 3 sets of nVidia drivers on my GTX 480. But that doesn't matter does it.
nVidia is king of drivers rolleyes.gif

Personally I'd go with the 7970 with Waterblocks.

Waterblocks are not cheap.

I guess there is some mystery with AMD drivers that no one can explain.....rolleyes.gif

The real mystery is in users themselves. If they can describe with open minds very specifically the issues they are having including the OS environment, configuration and customization, it is easier to solve.

I have involved in graphics section troubleshooting threads both AMD and Nvidia but mostly AMD. I like troubleshooting threads because almost no one of very few wants to go there - no flaming wins. Most of the issues are resolved by performing clean driver install, last resort re-format. The rest of the issues are related to hardware, overclocking and third party softwares. Small percentage to new games released not optimized/supported by drivers.

I get my reps from troubleshooting threads after problems fixed (not because I am an expert), but trying to understand the issues they are having then give suggestions to try based on personal limited experience with Forceware and Catalyst, SLI Surround and Crossfire Eyefinity.

I don't blame users that put everything on the drivers because they don't have other explanations until their problems resolved and understand the "why". But it's hard to help users with their mind already set on "drivers".

After so many threads and posts, I have no conclusion about the drivers or makes me eligible to come to one. It's just too many variables and every issues are unique. About SLI Surround and Crossfire Eyefinity, are not for users that expect plug and play without some basics understanding how they work and minimum hardware requirement.

Peace.

If anything I have had great experiences with both NV and AMD, I still do not understand how someone can buy a 7970 and say "Naa, the drivers sucked so I switched to a 680" or vice versa..

I personally built a new rig for a relative that currently has a x6 1090T OC'ed paired with an Asus 7970 DC2T and he cannot be happier. No driver issues, no lag, NADA. I also have a friend that has a 2500K @ 4.5Ghz paired with a GTX 680 and its running like a champ. All these users that are having issues just baffle me, i would love to help out and fix their issues cause to be honest it ain't exactly rocket science....

Driver is hit or miss for everyone. For me Nvidia driver has always give me TDR crashes. I tried multiple Nvidia GPUs, and the crashes keep coming. I also reinstalled Windows several times, still no good.

In the end I traded 560 Ti for 6950. To me AMD driver is painless.
