Best Software for managing multiple monitors?

Thread Starter
So I recently set up a second monitor, and have decided to play around with different software for them, because last time I had two displays Catalyst control center wasn't cutting it. I've been playing with Ultramon for a bit now and it seems to have alot of nifty features and all (been going macro crazy wheee.gif ) . But all my games keep minimizing when I use an application on the other monitor, I'd like to be able to use aero theme, and it appears to actually be really memory intensive.

So any sugestions for what to try next? Or maybe just a better way to use Ultramon with CCC together?

Price isn't really a factor feeling like a mindless consumer whore today biggrin.gif Thanks in advance peoples

Aero never was memory intensive for me, and I run 2 monitors smile.gif
However, I've had issues with 2 monitors with my old 4xxx series card (4870 Gainward). Maybe AMD's 4xxx series have some generic trouble with multiple monitors? Bad drivers and such are also a factor..

PS: And I've always used just Windows to manage my monitors, has all the features I need smile.gif

Oh no Ultramon just does not support aero theme, but aero is just a slight bit more memory intensive than classic anyways even on one display.

I've always used UltraMon; it does everything I need it to. The full version does support the aero theme. It even works with my custom one. The downside, though, is that it isn't free.

As for games minimizing when you click on the other monitor... I admit it's annoying. However, most modern games have a borderless/maximized windowed mode and that fixes the problem. For games that don't support that, you could use a program like ShiftWindow to emulate that functionality.

Good Luck!

I use Display Fusion, works pretty well. I have also used Ultramon, they are very similar.

I personally use DisplayFusion and I love it. Unless Ultramon has improved on this, DisplayFusion handles multiple taskbars so much better.

been looking at DisplayFusion today, it looks like the manager window itself has a much less confusing UI which I like. Any comments on macro capability anyone? Would be super helpful as I've recently ran into money and am no longer a filthy pirate biggrin.gif

Hi man,

You need to try Actual Multiple Monitors. It has the feature "Ignore Deactivation", which allows preventing minimization of full-screen application on multiple monitors. Just select desired application and press Ctrl+shift+alt+i and this app will not losing focus.

It has free version with limited functionality if you will not buy it.

thanks I'll try it out, I've figured out ways of preventing the minimizing/crashing with most games. Source games were really easy to fix it with and Shiftwindow and Hydravision profiles in CCC help with a few....Now if I could just get it to work with Starcraft 2 I'd be set mad.gif

Starcraft 2 actually has a windowed fullscreen mode in the graphics settings. You just have to make sure you also confine the cursor or you wont be scrolling anywhere.
