GPU upgrade question

Thread Starter
Since the release of the GTX 680 I was dead set on getting the newest Nvidia GPU.... but right now I found a deal for a new Radeon 7970 - reference AMD model that would cost me 453€ shipped - cheapest GTX 680 I could buy would end up costing me 510€ after Evga gets more in stock - waiting is something I'm not good at tongue.gif

So here I am on trusty OCN asking for help on what GPU to get biggrin.gif

Switching from your current GTX480 SLI to either a single HD7970 or GTX680 means upgrade in terms of power consumption, heat and noise but a downgrade in terms of framerate, in general. See the chart below for an example:-

So, I would suggest not doing it.

But if you have to, perhaps get the HD7970 now (due to little patience). Play with it and see if you are happy to keep it. If not, sell it and buy the GTX680. By that time, EVGA would have restock their inventory.

I had to sell my SLI setup due to having a small room - had my window open during winter and ambient temps still reached 25°C don't want to see what happens during summer....so I'm currently rocking a 3870 backup.

I guess your idea isn't that bad I can get the 7970 and sell it if it gives me any driver related problems altho I do have good experience with ATI
