580 for the 680

Thread Starter
I just recently purchased my new rig and went with an ASUS DCII 580. And i got a decent rebate on it, so it dropped the price to right within my budget.

My question to you is that should sell my 580 to this community and then purchase a EVGA 680?

The DCII cards are beastly cards. Since the performance gains from a 580 to a 680 aren't too much, I would stick with the 580. Its still a great card, and the 680 doesn't get you much but e-peen in this situation.
Just overclock the hell out of the 580 since you have the DCII cooler. thumb.gif

it seems to me that you'll be gaming on 1080p according to your rig specs. I think the 580gtx will be more than sufficient for quite a while and considering the price difference and money lost from sale, i don't think it'll be worth it.

That's why Jermasaurus indicated that it's more of e-peen increase. 60 FPS is more than enough to run games.

Fully agree. I've been upgrading cards every year, but this year I decided to give it a rest. I discovered that there isnt a game out there that I cant play maxed out or at reasonably high settings even with a 570. A 580 is more than enough to handle everything, and at 1920x1080 its almost overkill. The only time I would consider a 680 or its equivalent is if I had a 2560x1600 monitor or multiple displays.

Hold on to it!
I have one right now (the 580)...I'm looking to get another one soon, just waiting for all these kids selling in the used section to realize their used 580s aren't worth close to $400 anymore

i would say if u want to upgrade...save the bucks and wait for the bigger ones like the GK110 or the GK112 which are planned for summer nd fall i guess
right now GTX580 is more than enough for 1080p....other than that if u want to get than get it.......but remember GK110 or 112 will provide u much bigger leap

I also have a Asus Direct cuii GTX 580 and its an awsome card but ive been thinking about a GTX 680 too. As others have said, think i just have the new technology upgrade bug as my GTX 580 maxes everything out on ultra settings at 1980 x 1080 at 60fps normally. Adding a second GTX 580 now they have come down in price is another option but then you dont have PCI-E 3.0 (not that its useful at the moment anyway) and 1ghz + core clocks (unless your WC). The GTX 680 is £429 here and i have seen Asus Direct CUII GTX580's going for as little as £240 second hand on ebay. I paid £370 for mine at christmas, i can't afford to lose £130 in 3 months at the moment. If you have finds go for it, if not what you have is fantastic anyway smile.gif

My card overclocks to 950mhz core, 1900mhz shader, 2154 memory at 1.138v which is fantastic. OVERCLOCK THAT BEAST IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY DONE SO! I got a good 10fps increase in some games from overclocking smile.gif
