Look here.

Yes, it's the latest, top of the line cards, and yes, it's still a little lower resolution than 4Kx2K. Regardless, if you want a solid framerate I'm sure that's easily achievable. 8Kx4K might still take a little work, but there is nothing stopping people from running at 4Kx2K right now... Except that the monitors aren't practically available yet.

I'll buy the technology, but not from Apple. High end PC users have been waiting for larger than 2560x1600 panels for close to 10 years now. Kinda sad if Apple is the first to actually bring it to market.

Apple hater detected.

does it really matter if apple is the first to release high resolution laptops ?

atleast you get a nice design laptop to install windows on.

The point is that even this Macbook screen is not at the limits of visual acuity and that you would still notice an improvement if they went even higher DPI that this.

I feel that anyone who has used any of the ultra high resolution smart phones is well aware of how much the DPI improves your overall user experience. It is absolutely something worth chasing and in fact it's shameful it has taken this long.

Yes, such resolutions will kill performance in games, but that's only going to put more pressure on NVidia and AMD to make better GPUs.

Nothing preventing them from still rendering at 1080p and scaling though for people whose hardware can't handle rendering to native 4k screens.

Sorry to be rude here, but this post makes no sense to me. You sit the same distance from your laptop screen as your desktop.

Furthermore, you should immediately realize the implications here that EVERYONE now has to follow suit and begin pumping the resolutions of ALL displays across the board. This includes desktop monitors, tablets, laptops, everything.

Today, laptops. Tomorrow, the world.

It's more like you'll be able to choose to render at half the native resolution and upscale it, like you can now. But most hardware won't be able to handle anything tongue.gif

The first company to make a 17" 2560x1600 laptop will have my business. It doesn't matter who it is.

If you're wanting 2560x1600 worth of real estate, that'd make it quite difficult to use. If you're wanting a higher PPI, we'll probably see 3840x2400 / 2160 on 17 inch laptops.
