confused about clock speeds on my 7600GS

Thread Starter
OK, I got a 7600GS with 512MB. I'm pretty sure the box says it has a memory clock speed of 540mhz, and a core clock of 400mhz. So that's fine. But I install CoolBits, and run the Nvidia overclocking program. It says that my memory clock is 270mhz and the core clock is 400mhz. At least it seems to... the way it displays numbers, you're not exactly sure what the factory clock speed is on this thing.

Anyway, I thought the 7600GS was supposed to be 400mhz memory and core clock speeds. In fact I thought the memory speed was supposed to be 400mhz (800 effective), not 270Mhz (540 efffective). Why was mine set to 270? I "overclocked" it to 350mhz (the top slider), and can maintain that without artifacts, but it bothers me that the clock speed I'm setting is lower than the official clock speed of the card.

What brand card do you have....if it is a PNY it is correct....270MHz memory clock is 540MHz effective in DDR2.....the 400MHz I think that you are refering to is the RAMDAC...Not the same animal....Just remenber that the changes you make in coolbits will result in double the effective memory speed.

Hope this helps
