ASUS P9X79 USB 3.0 case

Thread Starter
Hey I have

MB ASUS P9X79, Intel X79, LGA2011, DDR3, ATX

and case coolmaster black 431 which has USB3.0 port in front and 2x USB 2.0

USB2.0 works ok but not USB3.0. I havent found any specification in ASUS manual about USB3.0 only USB2.0 (where to switch it)

So is that mean that ASUS doesnt support these connectors for this kind of cases or what?

Thanks

That case comes with an internal USB 3.0 connector, but I don't think it has a 3.0->2.0 adapter. It doesn't look like your motherboard has an internal USB 3.0 header, so you would need a 3.0->2.0 adapter in order to use that USB 3.0 port. It can still work at USB 2.0 speed.

P9X79 does NOT have front (internal) USB 3.0 header.

P9X79 PRO does have a front (internal) USB 3.0 header.

EDIT: There is NO such thing as USB 3.0 to 2.0 internal header adapter. Your motherboard does NOT have USB 3.0 internal header, so it CANNOT use front USB 3.0 ports. You can get creative and mod your case. That, however, cost some money and likely not worth it.

What you need for modding:

http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-6-Feet-SuperSpeed-Extension-Cable/dp/B0037ECAQ8

Remove USB 3.0 ports on your case and replace them with USB 3.0 cables.

Remove USB 3.0 ports on your case and replace them with USB 3.0 cables.

Well that's not true. I received one with my Corsair 550D.

But OP is not using 550D, and I don't see such adapter is on sale.

It's not about the case really. The adapter is just an internal 3.0 to internal 2.0. I couldn't find one either, but I know Corsair didn't make it...

Silverstone uses them too, and they're usually made just for the companies to provide. I've never been able to find one on any site and I've looked quite a bit.
