Please remember that a higher offset doesn't guarantee a higher OC. There are 8 steps 13 Mhz apart for each offset. That is part of the reason why people are reporting a higher score with a lower offset. Tell people the core clock that is the only thing that matters not +130 or +170. 170 is more likely to be faster but not guaranteed. I think if you get 1200 you are doing well. Each program/game may be running at a different clock speed as well.

Yup.. that's what i'm finding out.

One card at +170 could result in a 1230 core, while one card a +130 could result in a 1250 core. My card is stuck at 1202 core (which is +120). Still a bit low... but at least i'm breaking 1.2GHz core.

Same here! Even after I raised the MHz from 1200 to ~1250 no performance increase. In fact it was a decrease.
Strange thing. This offset thing is really wicked.
But anyway, this is a lot more fun than just applie more this and that. A real riddle.

Check my OC on the official thread:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1232473/official-nvidia-gtx680-owners-thread/440#post_16800910

That's almost a 18% performance boost, pretty impressive, and temps and noise are pretty low! biggrin.gif

It looks like bumping Memory clocks helped a lot. thumb.gif

There's this pervasive myth out there that all 7970's hit 400mhz oc's all day and night long when it's not the case, most of them are 150-200mhz(at most) bumps for 24/7 stability (for a ~1075-1125mhz operating speed) without making the card into a vacuum cleaner on noise (and even then most of them don't respond to much further voltage bumps, anyway). If we can really expect +150-200 on the GTX 680 as a typical average, that makes clocks of ~1250-1300 generally achievable from a stock of around 1100 max turbo. The OC percentages aren't really going to be that different typically it appears.
There is that general feeling, and we may get more with further software, but I'm looking at that as a possible bonus and not skewing my thoughts by feeling like I'm missing out (since we don't know for sure that we are).
Doesn't sound bad to me at all thumb.gif.

Stop spilling your nonsense everywhere. We have already told you MANY times that the average 7970 overclock is NOT 1100 mhz. Most 7970s will do 1250 ( like all FIVE of mine have), and the higher end will do 1300-1350+.

Give it a rest GoldenTiger with your nonsense. Just because you claim to be a 'programmer' doesn't make you a hardware guru.

As much as I could agree with you, please try to be a bit more respectful when speaking about other members.

By the way, I was fighting with pioneerisloud with his HD7970 and it looks like the GTX680 is much more clock per clock efficient when it comes to Overclocking. thumb.gif

I usually am, but GoldenTiger has been quite stubborn when it comes to what the 7970 is capable of, and I take misinformation very seriously, as it influences buying decisions greatly.

If the 7970 on average only OC'd to 1100, I would drop mine in a heartbeat. But fortunately it doesn't and I'm able to run 1250mhz in Tri-fire (as my slowest card does 1250 on air). Not to mention all five of the 7970s I've owned would do 1250 or higher. When I was running crossfire only, I had both of my cards at 1320 thumb.gif

By the way, that is with the 7970 at a mere 1125mhz, which is what most people attain at stock voltage.

Which is what I have said this whole time.... . That at stock or near stock volts that 1075 to 1125 is the limit. I.e. as I said also, without turning the card into a dustbuster. You were in such a fit that you haven't even been reading what I was saying.

http://alienbabeltech.com/main/?p=28910 oc-to-oc review, as I said the entire time the Radeon 7970's average at stock volt & non-dust-buster fan speeds as you just agreed was the average, shows the GTX 680 is faster. Additionally as I've said this entire time, it is faster, cheaper, quieter, consumes less power, etc.

I can hit 1250 on my 7970, but it sounds like a train is passing right by my head. For acceptable temps/noise 1100-1150 is the limit on air.

But I think it's time to stop bickering about, this is really the wrong thread. Go stroke the old ego in the "Real King" thread on your own board. thumb.gif
