680 Overclocking (Calling all owners!) - Page 55

What's the highest we've seen so far? I've been able to get my clock at 1320Mhz for the bottom card. The top refuses to cross above 1300 for too long (hovers at 1292).

Recent benchmarks for me.

EDIT: 1320, not 1330. Also, this is all on air in SLI mode.

I can't get my FPS over 97.3 and my score over 2458 frown.gif

Anyone running this card overclocked in an FT02/RV02/FT03/RV03 kind of case? If so can you post temps? smile.gif

I do, two of them actually:

401

I use 1ºC = 1% fan profile (Default on MSI Afterburner 2 .2.0 BETA 15 or EVGA Precision X) and the highest I have seen while clocked to 1250MHz Core and +450MHz Memory was 66ºC-68ºC, that of course with case fans at max speed, and that's a pretty good fan profile to me as I find them quiet enough, if I use fan speed of 70-75% the cards won't hit above 62ºC-63ºC. thumb.gif

Overall these cards are epic and they love my Raven. biggrin.gif

Lol I meant someone besides you, but thanks. I've already seen your temps in the Evga forums wink.gif

My only complaint is the 70ºC downclocking, if they allowed us to set it to 75ºC or 80ºC I could use 60% fan speed and have much quieter cards. biggrin.gif

But I play with headphones so 70-75% doesn't bother me at all (Can't hear them), and with that fan speed the max I saw yesterday on Battlefield 3 was 63ºC. tongue.gif

I've found out from Jacob on EVGA forums the upcoming GTX 680's with extra power phases requiring extra pin connectors will have the same temp restrictions. Signature versions due out in a few weeks.

Now unconfirmed and my opnion: In theory this will achieve higher OC with higher over volting yet staying cooler from extra power phases that's bascically absorbing the extra heat. It wouldn't be an over volting but comes in the form of a higher power target to achieve this, since it's being dynamically done behind the scenes.

If you want lower temps too, you can also try redoing the thermal paste. It made about a 5c difference at load with mine. Even in my hot room I can keep it around 60-65c full load with around 70% fan speed.

I need to do this. Which TIM did you use? I have as5 and noctua laying around.

That 5c would let me drop fan speed 10%. I have to use 80% fan (~73F ambient) to keep my temp at <68c.

Seriously though, WTB driver or bios that throttles at 80c instead of 70c. Could keep my fan at 65-75% but it hits 70-71c frown.gif

Yeah, i'm not too happy with mine, I can't even run haven at +100 without a crash at the default settings, turning haven to max is lol'able right now.
( under water at 45°c )

Also, I noticed that the heatsink on the reference 580 is much better quality than the 680 (my 580 has an all copper bottom, where the 680 has just copper over the GPU... I do want to swap them to see if it makes a difference, but am too lazy to take my water block off.

I have a 15 day return policy on my card, ( minus 15% restocking fee ) and Unless I can hit some decent oc's within that time, its going back for a 7970 that I know I can hit 1200mhz on. or just go back to my 580 until all this is sorted out. ( which i'm really tempted to do )

GTX 680... I am dissapoint. mad.gif

IMO:
680 not worth it. ( unless you are upgrading from an old set up )
yes its new gen and expectedly faster than previous gen, but it is 100% clear to me now that these cards are a marketing ploy, just a 560/570 equivilant OC'd from the factory with a 680 sticker slapped on the box because Nvidia failed to bring the heat.
