Rumor: Socom / MAG creators rumored to be shutting down.

Quote:
Zipper Interactive, a first-party Sony studio responsible for the creation of the SOCOM series and PS3 shooter MAG, is in the process of being shut down, according to Kotaku sources.

Sony has repeatedly declined to comment on the matter to Kotaku this week, citing their policy not to discuss rumor or speculation.

But we've heard chatter for several days that Zipper was in the process of being hit with layoffs and a project cancellation. The scope of the layoffs appears to indicate a studio shutdown.

If this is true I will truly be sad, MAG was my favorite FPS game since Counter Strike and I was really hoping for a sequel some day.

I liked Socom but my true love is MAG. I would sell my left nut for a MAG 2, on PC would be a dream come true.

It's quite sad but at the same time not unexpected. I absolutely loved SOCOM 1 and 2, but after that they suffered sequelitis and what really hit the nail on the coffin was SOCOM 4. It was still a good game, but they've lost their uniqueness of being tactically challenging. Unit 13 is much the same but I can't complain for a handheld game. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are really doing what SOCOM 1 and 2 did back in their days, and that is to be good and unique enough to sell the consoles.

I have played Socom since Socom 1. Seen it slowly degrade then ultimately fall in the next gen console era. And my reply to Zipper supposedly shutting down? Good riddance. See ya! Let another developer take on a Socom HD remake or a Socom collection so they won't add new crap and try to evolve the game. They'll make it just the way it is.

Bye Zipper. See you in Hell. And take Seth Luisi with you? PLEASE?
