i5 2500k Build help

Thread Starter
Hey there,
I am going to get myself an i5 2500k CPU and I am thinking about the motherboard.
I might go with a HD 7950 3GB or equivalent and use that as a single card solution.

I have 400 EUR that I can spend on the PSU, motherboard and CPU
I5 2500k - 184 EUR
TX750M - 99.57 EUR - (dual GPU)

Remaining for motherboard/RAM and etc... - 116 EUR

I5 2500k - 184 EUR
TX650M - 89.46 EUR - (single GPU)

Remaining for motherboard/RAM and etc... - 126 EUR

I am thinking of only using a single card solution, and not CF/SLi in the future, but I am not sure. In terms of being future proof, is this a good idea?
If I was to go single card only then a TX650M PSU would suffice.

Thanks in advance

~ A.T.

whats the total budget for the whole PC buddy ??? anyways in 400 bucks go for
CPU :
and if you have single GPU plans then go with a GTX 650 over 7950 and go with a 650w psu something like
Core i5 25ooK £166.98

Motherboard :
AsRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 £115.43

RAM:
Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Low Profile Vengeance Memory Kit CL9 1.5V £41.08

GPU:
EVGA GeForce GTX 680 £429.22

PSU
NZXT Hale82 650W Modular PSU £74.74

Total £847.45 without the GPU its £398.23

Hope you like it smile.gif

I am just concerned if the 2GB on the GTX 680 will be enough.

And the total cost might be 800 Euros. I will not be buying RAM, I will be keeping my old RAM from my current rig.

The PSU is quite expensive, I can get a Seasonic X-660 for that price

I5 2500k - 184 EUR
ASrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 - 118 EUR
X-660 - 118.71 EUR (need to cheap out here).
Gainward GTX 680 - 465 EUR

Total 885 EUR (a bit too much. A HD 7950 costs 377 EUR)

EDIT: Use www.hereuka.sk to search products

Resolution will be 1920 x 1080. I want this rig to last me for sometime.

Another thing; is the GTX 680 worth the extra 100 EUR compared to the HD 7950?

I don't like the PSU (Antec Earthwatt 650w or SeaSonic M12II 650w would be a better choice), but everything else is good job! thumb.gif

Change the PSU in Tarun's build to a Corsair TX650W, XFX Core650W, or Antec EA 650W.

You have to look at performance mate, it really boils down to how much bang you get for your buck, with everything you look at, especially CPU / PSU / MB / GPU....

The more money you have, the better options you can look at, because price matters a lot, therefore use a comparison to make that call...

Here is are some Benchmark Charts to examine... (AnandTech)

550

550

550

550

GTX 680 FPS - 7950 FPS / GTX 680 FPS = Difference In %...

For Battlefield 3, the GTX 680 is about 34% - 38%Better...

You have to decide is it worth it or not...

For me, the the GTX 680 is a very nice card, indeed...

While if you look at Metro 2033 & Skyrim, the 7950 is very close to the GTX 680...

So I'd say it's all about if you are willing to part with the money, though 34% - 38% performance gain is not something to sneeze at, definitely not.

However, mileage will vary based upon which game you are playing it on...

If you wanted to save money, then the 7950 is definitely good enough!

I'd rather do SLI / XFire than get a GTX 680, but that's just me...

Considering the GTX 680 Supports 3 Monitors AS IS, that's pretty amazing though, truly!

GTX 680 is like a dual GPU in some cases.

I need this system to last me for 4 years, in which case "futureproofness" is important. Using the TX750 could I SLi the GTX 680s?
