It does, I was installing SUSE 10.1 on a comp at school, which inspired me to finally get off my lazy bum and learn Linux. I meant to very long ago, but I was just so lazy. I was just wondering if the one in Suse would work fine, as all I did with it was format the former Windows partition on the other comp.

Now I think I'll use Linux as often as I can from now on, and simply go to Windows for my gaming

Also, about GNOME/KDE, is one any different than the other besides the look to it? Are there really any other pros to one over the other? I noticed during the installation at school I think Gnome used Firefox for it's browser, but I can use it on KDE as well, right? Because I <3 Firefox, unless Konqueror is better in your opinion...

i personally find kde easier to use. the suse partition prog will be fine. i use opera as my web browser but i would prefer to use firfox over konquer. konquer is a little like using explorer and then turns into internet explorer when you type in a url

Alrighty, thanks a lot. Sounds great.

Also, do I need to prepare anything before the partitioning? Besides backing up my PC of course, just in case

dont htink so. if you have all your stuff backed up you should be fine. it will resize your partition without destroying data. just be sure to read through everything

Cool. I'm actually burning the DVD iso right now to the disk, then I'll back up my PC tomorrow probably and get to installing. Although I may back it up tonight, depends on how long it takes and how tired I am...

Wow, it only took about 7 minutes to burn the DVD... that was fast. I thought it would take longer to burn 3.5 GB lol, I rebooted and put the disk in and it went to the installation menu so it appears to have worked.

Anyways, I was about to go ahead and start backing up my PC when my dad walked in and told me to wait till tomorrow, as it's too late and he didn't want me sleeping all day, then he made the comment "Hey, you don't have school tomorrow so we can all sleep in late!"... >_< (if that makes sense that he would say that after not wanting me to sleep late)

Anyways, I'll start at it tomorrow I suppose! And thanks for the help, peeps!

Defrag your hard drive before the resizing, just for good measure.

But my MAIN question is just what do I need to do/learn before I start this? I know in SUSE installation it will ask you about how you want partitions set up, should I simply use that or will that damage my current Windows partition in any way by shrinking it? I've never done this before (obviously) so I just want to be safe because I REALLY don't want to rebuild my comp at this time.

Then, how big should my partition be? I've read that anywhere from 10gb to 20gb would suffice. I have a 160 GB hard drive and I am only using between 40gb-50gb (depending on when you ask me ) so I definitely have plenty of extra disk space.

Or, for the partitioning, should I use PartitionMagic or something, or will the partitioning done during the Installation suffice?

Also, I read some stuff about a boot loader or something like LILO or GRUB, do I need one of those? If so, which one? What do they do, exactly, and how should I set them up? And where can I download it?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I really appreciate it and I'm sure someone would like to help (someone always does here! )
simplest and easiest way since you dont know much about linux is set up windows first since its a whole lot easier to partition. then install linux on the remaning space. so since u have 160gb drive i would split it pretty much up the middle. 80 for windows and 80 for linux. i had a dual boot machine like this and i found it a milliion times easier to install windows first then linux. if u have any questions pm me

I already have Windows installed. I'm going to install it on this machine that I am currently posting from, the one seen in the specs in my sig

and dangerousHobo, that's a good idea! I didn't even think about that! Thanks
