Tax return! Do I buy 6850 or 7770? - Page 2

Why not just grab this for crossfire?

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX35330

And have $110 left over to spend on an SSD or whatever suits your fancy. You'll get as good or better performance than a 6870 and your mobo and PSU can handle it.

Can I crossfire that with a 5770? (Is that what you're implying?)

Cause i'm currently doing single card solution. Wouldn't mind the idea, but i'd prefer pairing up higher end single cards eventually then a 5770 in cross. (the one I have exactly is not sold locally anymore, suxors, cause I love it's design)

i would not recommend it the only reason is a single gpu solution is the best in my sight if you CF your 5770 right now then in future you gotta purchases a better GPU like may be for a example a GTX 560Ti 448 which cost you higher or you can go with the GTX 560 Ti or 6870 and later CF/SLi it thumb.gif

You can Crossifre the 5770 with a 6770. They're the same card but the 6770 supports Bluray encoding and only has one CFX connector so you can't tri-fire. IIRC the 6770 just has to go in the top slot. It's a decent solution for 1080p. Mine can manage 45-75fps in BF3 on ultra minus the AA.

Whether you should do it or not depends on the upgrade path you want to follow. Get a $90 card now and see how long that will hold you, or spend $200 now with the intention of crossfire or SLI on that later. Either way you'll get similar performance for the time being. IMO the smarter choice is to spend less now and wait for Nvidia's full lineup. The price of the 7000 series cards can't stay this high once there's some competition.

I bought the gigabyte 6850 at memoryexpress last week, great silent card. I didn't overclocked it yet because I need to reinstall windows to correct a problem (and I'm waiting for an SSD).
Paid 146.15$ shipped and tax include. With a pricematch at newegg.ca (the deal is finished).

I would still say 6850. Pricematch it with
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125353&nm_mc=OTC-PricebatCA&cm_mmc=OTC-PricebatCA-_-Video+Cards-_-GIGABYTE-_-14125353
And you will pay $144.99 + tax, good deal.

I missed the price beat feature of mem ex... now i'm curious if I can find the 6870... (crossing fingers),

--- Reason i'm doing ati, is the display port feature, hdmi, and 1-2 dvi's. Hdmi has to have 5.1-7.1 digital audio for separate reasons, and long term i'm rigging with my 5770 (as secondary) a 6 monitor system... More output = better.
