After 8 years, building a PC again (24/03/12)

Hi all,

I recently joined overclock.net and have become increasingly jealous of all the sweet builds people have, and have finally given in and am starting my own build, after 8 years, the last 4 of which I had a gaming laptop (dumb I know, but it made sense at the time).

I want a small build and something which is good value, as well as being high quality.

So far I have gone with these parts:

Sugo SG 08 case, I figured that I should go for something high quality, since it would last and might give me some decent resale value.

CASE+PSU: Sugo SG 08 withh 600W PSU Ebay (new) = £180.98

G skill RAM, 2133 is overkill but RAM is cheap these days.

RAM: G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL11 (11-11-11-30) 1.5V £55

Next I wasnt sure what Mobo and CPU to get and was thinking about waiting for a z77 ivy bridge, but I think for the kind of GPU i will eventually get (not more than £200), it would be overkill. Then I came across a cheap A8-3870K, which I guess I could sell when I want to upgrade to trinity or ivy bridge later (along with the motherboard).

CPU: A8-3870K £93.50

will just use stock cooling for now, and the mobo to match it, went with the Asus mini ITX with wifi, hopefully it will keep its value when I went to sell it off to upgrade.

MOBO: Asus F1A75-I DELUXE £96.97

GPU: TBC, not sure if ill get one unless/until I see a really good deal (very max ~£200), maybe a 7870/7850 if prices drop.

DISPLAY: TBC, not sure about this really, I have a old 1080p monitor that I might recycle, otherwise need ideas for a nice budget friendly monitor, preferably one with a thin bezel.

Total Spent: £435.45
Prices are all including delivery.

Im just going to recycle my storage from laptop, I bought an SSD for it half a year ago.

Storage: OCZ Vertex 3 120GB £150 six months ago

I'll update with pics of the build as parts arrive and get put together, looking forward to it wink.gif
would appreciate any tips and ideas thumb.gif or someone to point out if i'm missing something/doing something stupid.

You might also want to consider a Silverstone FT03 as a case. Can support tower coolers and full sized GPU. http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=291&area=en

I like HAFs as well but I think the Op was looking for a small build.

Thanks,

Those are nice, already ordered the SG 08 now though smile.gif

It can hold GPU up to 12.2 inches, but heatsink only to 117mm. will see what I can do about the cooler if I start overclocking.

Trinty APUs wont work with that Mobo. Its needs a new FM2 socket. I dont think its planned to be backwards compatible, but you never know. AmD has a good track record in that department so it may be.

Could always water cool with an H80/H60 or somethink like that.

do you plan on over clocking this?

dihartnell, i checked both the apu and board and they are both FM1 socket so that combo will work perfectly.
