3820 vs 3930K for gaming purposes - Page 4

Check out my build log in my sig...the 3820 is a total beast! I'm running at 4.3Ghz and undervolted to 1.24. I've been at 5.1 stable, but honestly 4.3 is plenty fast and you still keep speed-step and your other power saving goodies. With this chip's ability to run stable undervolted your H100 will be fine. My setup puts out 127 Watts at these oc'd settings instead of the stock 130

As you can see from my sig I have a 3820 and currently play BF3 on it with ultra settings, 1080p at over 60fps. I even tested running fraps on it yesreday recording at 60 fps, full resolution with sound and I lost about 2fps on average (i.e nothing considering the extra load I'm putting on my CPU).

Now obviously my GTX-680 will play a big part in that, but the point is the 3930K would provide no advantage to the above at all as it's already fine with everything maxed.

I have seen SLI 580s running on an Clarkdale i3 without problems. Of course framerates were lower in CPU intensive games. Checkout the i3 vs. i7 threads over here.
