Well the Xeon build might still be on! The lady I spoke with on the phone might have been confused because she told me to look for information on the intel website. The information she told me to look for was only available for the sckt771 chips aka the 50** Xeon series. There was not any compatability information for the Xeon 30** series as she suggested. I will have to research it more, but this might still be a possibility.

It's worth a shot man, if it doesn't, go B**** at Intel and say you got bad info that it would work with normal 775 and make them give you a quad core.

In regards to the thread starter posting in the thread about Core 2 Duo help I will come and help this thread.
Already seen some flaws here, however I am only going to correct one technicality, you may sort the remains out yourselves

Previously mentioned in the thread was a statement that resembled that the desktop and server processors used identical instruction sets. To a degree this statement is incorrect.

Each processor does contain the following advanced processing level instruction sets:
SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3 (Supplemental), MMX, x86-64.

The grouping directive to comply with IA-32 is however slightly different.
x87 Floating Point Instruction - Same
SIMD Integer Instruction - Different
SIMD Floating Point Instructions - Different

These are the two main differences between the desktop and server variants of the Core Micro-architecture.

x87 Floating Point Instruction - A single instruction that improves x87 FPU floating point to integer conversions. This is identical to remaining Intel architectures i.e. Netburst.

SIMD Integer Instruction - One instruction that provides a specialised 128-bit unaligned data load.
With The Xeon based architecture the ability of this instruction is greater. Often more complex based instructions are interfaced with this ability for mathematical arithmetic and logic processing. These instructions can either be 32 or 64 bit designed.

Wow. I had to re-read it but thanks for all the good info!

I guess this would post some nice superpi times and fold like a fiend! And I doubt the game performance would suffer much. From what you say it is only slightly more specialized for data processing.

Technically from the outside these processors are identical.

If we were to run "multiple" Floating Point Integer tests for example the scores of these two processors would be just about identical.

However due to additional interfacing ability Xeon's have always been able to outstrip a desktop based processor at mathematical calculations. It is the same in this case also with Conroe vs. Woodcrest (and equivalent).

Xeon's are based (instruction/algorithm/thread) around processing mathematical and numerical data at speeds above that of their desktop counterparts regardless of clock speed (to a degree).

Conroe and Woodcrest are “identical†apart from the slight tweaking of instructions
