Issues installing windows 7 need help urgently - Page 2

First of all, disconnect all the drives except the SSD. That way it doesn't put the boot sector on a different drive and there's no confusion about what to delete and what not to delete. You can reconnect them after Windows is installed.

As Macsters suggested, you can do all of the formatting of the SSD within Windows Setup. Select any partitions and delete them so the entire drive is unallocated space. From there you can just install; you'll get the 100MB system reserved partition, but I've never felt compelled to avoid it. If you really want to get rid of it, you'll have to refer to Sean's setup guide.

BTW, you've mentioned different versions of Windows, and you've borrowed a friend's copy. Do you have a valid product key? If you do, note that it will only work on one version. So if you have a key for Professional it won't work on Ultimate.

k I already tried reformatting the SSD 3 times however i still get the error message
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disk"

Notably the SSD even after reformatting still has 1gb not free.... is this cause by the 100MB system reserved partition..... Not that makes sense

Just wanted to check if I reformate the 100MB system reserved partition as well as a few other hdd partitions that have appeared I'm NOT deleting my ssd drivers?? Never had an SSD before so just wanted to ask!

I'm well aware of this however at this point i really I just want to get a copy of windows on my pc I figure that i'll then have 30 days to buy a new copy and just use its CD key.... So not really an issue

So Any way to change the SSD to GPT HDD or have I done something in bios...... And how do i remove a partition I know how to reformat by I have no idea how to remove a partition!

Thanks for the help smile.gif never had so many issues with windows!

I replied to you in my thread, do this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

Make sure in teh UEFI you boot from teh USB/CD-ROM NOT using the UEFI: (DEVICE NAME) for the boot disc. Just the nromal one for the USB/CD/DVD drive.

Disconnect all drives form the system , but the one you are installing OS on.

Try installing from a USB and or downloading windows from my guide (post 1) if none of the above works.

Follow my MBR alignment section: Configure a drive using a BIOS/UEFI motherboard and MBR format:

Cheers.......... read your reply on your thread only saw your great guide and thread a day or so after I started this thread and due to my persisting issue i decided to also post my problems there also.....

Thanks for the help smile.gif the only real issue I'm having now is I'm uncertain if i can reformat all the partitions and then how to remove the partitions.

474

I know I can reformate the partitions on the HDD but was uncertain about the SSD. Does the '100MB system reserved partition' partition on the SSD hold drivers for the or anything which I cannot delete? SSD (It's my first SSD not used to using them)

So in summery can I format all partitions on the SSD and if so how do I remove the partition afterwards.... (I assume that the partition will still exist after I format it)

Thanks everone one for the help! thumb.gif

When you follow my guide it deletes all partitions on the drive you are installing on in the steps.

Before you start you can delete both the 100MB partitions I see in disk management.

And when it comes to formatting the SSD only do quick formats.
