ideas or advice for building my first PC case at college?

Hi guys, I'm totally new to making computer cases and need some ideas or safety advice, like protection for the components. This'll be a large case for my new PC build in a couple of months.

I'm thinking about making a case for my 'extended project qualification' (EPQ) at A level, hopefully it should be relatively easy to do?
I will have access to a workshop full of tools and assistance.
I am wondering if this will be really hard to do and should be steered away from it, what do you think? My mate said its a bad idea due to having to make sure the case parts have to be 'equally charged for the static electricity' or something but I think he is talking out of his arse :L (he has built his PC but not made a case before).
so any advice? is it a bad idea?
