Help needed on router installation (D-link DIR-615)

Hi all!

I'm not knowledgeable on installing routers so I need advise on how to install one smile.gif

Anyway, here is the current set-up:

Internet is connected to Router 1 (Cisco Linksys 2000) via cable
Router 1 is connected to Router 2 (D-link DIR-615) via cable

Now, Router 2 is a brand new router. I just bought it this afternoon. I have no idea how to install it. I'm planning to use Router 2 as a wifi hotspot, which gets its internet access from Router 1. Can anybody advise me on how to go about installing this? Like step-by-step procedure and if there are links to tutorials or something. Thanks smile.gif

this is my set up:

router 1 set with an IP of [for example] 192.168.123.1
connect that to the second router [it should be plugged in to the switch ports not the WAN/"Internet" port]
Give the second router an ip of 192.168.123.2 [That way you can log into the second router to change settings after you turn dhcp off]
turn off dhcp on second router.
Give them both the same SSID and Password

Call it a day

Are you wanting them to show up on the same network, or are you wanting the 2nd router to be it's own separate network (like for guests to use but not have any access to your computers and shared files)?

Thanks! I want them to all be in one network so everyone can share files, etc.

OK, then just follow Fuzzy's post and that should do it.
You can give them different ssid's if you want, they don't have to be the same to work.

I have 2 wireless routers at home set up with one as my wireless and the other as a guest wireless.
The "guest" one is not on the same network since I do not want them sharing with my network, and it has a simple WPA2 password. It is running DD-WRT so I have it set to turn off at night when not in use.

Make sure the DIR615 has the time set on it correctly. Mine wasn't and it dropped connections every 5 minutes I finally found and fixed the issue after I gave it away.
